FuckAlms ran it. The only UID I can find of his hasn't been seen here in 1.7 years. He used to lurk some IRC channels under a different name, but I can't find him. Guess he grew up and left.

The cool thing about OtakuTalk was that for a good while it was the last remaining original ATBBS (the KawaiiKitsune version) still around when grey ran it. I think he upgraded to MiniBBS around 2012.

I doubt this. The Wallower was a girl he knew IRL in 2010. After Chris foolishly got her doxxed, she asked for her information to be removed from the CWCki and promptly stopped associating with Chris.

I knew (and still know, I guess) the current otakutalk.org admin under the handle of lasi.
Believe it or not, he was still willing to run the site but the software had some major problems, including security issues. Overall, it made the board unmanageable and lasi shut it down temporarily. I offered help with rewriting software and I eventually delivered. Nothing too crazy, I just went through that pile of garbage minibbs code is and fixed whatever I could see, focusing on the issues. No refactoring, nothing too major because I don't know web stuff too well. Added couple of new functions though. I feel like even a schoolkid could do it in the end (it would have to be a really persistent kid willing to read a lot of docs but the point is a real programmer would not be necessary here) so I was and still am legitimately perplexed about why lasi wasn't able to do it but I guess he isn't a sit-on-your-ass-and-type-on-your-keyboard type of guy. Or something.
Now, we've been basically waiting for the otakutalk.org domain to free up and go off "being expensive" cooldown and you guys apparently bought it. Honestly, lasi said that he would register some another name so it's not a big deal and probably for the better that no name campers bought it.

DigitalOcean gives a 60-day trial with $100 in credit to use. If your concern is privacy this probably won't be the right option since it requires you to attach a credit card, but it should be fine if you're just not wanting to spend anything. It would give you 2 months to find somewhere else to host.
