From the Chinese name, 新冠病毒, which translate to "new crown epidemic". It is called "crown" because the scientific name, "corona", is the Latin word for crown, thus called because, under a microscope, the virus looks like it has a ring, or crown, around it.

It can also count as foreshadowing for the New and First King of America.

It literally comes from the Latin word for the virus' appearance.
