Are you still sober? If you're lockdown isn't this a bad time to be sober? I've been ive drinking 5 nights out of 7

That qualifies as alcoholism! Welcome to Bert's club.

I don't see how the lockdown changes anything, to be honest.

But let's say it did and the quote-unquote "lockdown" (Houston never really locked down, life is still 95% normal here) did make me depressed. It wouldn't make anything better. Drinking is a payday loan on happiness. And like a payday loan, you will be left poorer at the end of it.

When you drink, you get maybe 10 units of happiness but then the next day you have to suffer through 11 units of unhappiness. Your net loss is 1 unit of happiness. So I do know drinking tonight will make me enjoy tonight more, but I'll be left wanting to kill myself tomorrow. Lockdown or no lockdown, the bargain is the same.

This is a fun question. I can only imagine it comes from a very genuine place. For someone struggling with not drinking, this question makes perfect sense.

People who drink in order to deal with stress: Yep, this is a bad time to sober.
People who turn to drinking when faced with problems in their life: Yep, this is a bad time to sober.
People who cope with problems in other ways: Meh. Doesn't matter.

Did you always drink to the point of getting smashed?

Of course. I never enjoyed just having a few drinks. I had to hit the "sweet spot" (ie not quite enough to puke).

Oof. Yup that'll do it. I still drink a lot but almost never to the point of getting hammered. I always regret it and feel like shit the next day. It isn't worth it.

But that's not true for everyone. I guess if that is the case for an individual, then yeah, that person was a dumbass for however long they drank and it's good they finally quit being sfupid.
But there is some residual stupid remaining if they make statements like that thinking it covers all drinkers.

I'm happy for you! If alcohol is working for you and making your life better, keep doing what you're doing.

@previous (F)
Yeah you certainly seem like a happy guy alright ???
