British people can't stay at home in the summer. That's a fact. We should just end lockdown, man up and deal with it.

Saying "man up" is transphobic and you shouldn't really assume anyone's gender.

Yes, but you were upset about the possibility. Yet you advocate for reopening, which will put your mother and many other people at risk of contracting the virus. I just don't understand how you can reconcile those two things.

I would hate to lose my mum but we got to move on and just deal with any disasters that come our way. We can't lockdown for much longer without doing some serious longterm damage.

The death rate is already tapering off, in like 2 months the virus will just die out. You can't imprison all the young people in your country to let the old live a couple of more months

The economy can recover. All the hundreds of thousands of people who could potentially die from this can't recover from death. I was prepared for the economy to potentially take a hit from Brexit anyway, so I'm okay with it taking a hit to save lives which is even more important.

You're really being a turdhead on this subject.
You're attitude about saying 'Oh well' about old people dying just so your ass can go back to your comfy job is starting to piss me the hell off.

You are thought pretty well of on the board but none of the reasons why have anything to do with your incredibly
fucked up opinions on this matter.

People are allowed to have opinions even though some get upset at them. I believe history will prove me right and they'll end up saying lockdown was the wrong approach.

Nobody criticises lockdown as a response to the Spanish flu.
> A 2020 study found that US cities that implemented early and extensive non-medical measures (quarantine etc.) suffered no additional adverse economic effects due to implementing those measures,(https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2020/04/pandemic-economy-lessons-1918-flu) when compared with cities that implemented measures late or not at all. My county has had a pretty big spike in cases in the last couple days since loosening restrictions. People are dumb and assume that less restrictions means they're safe to go back to normal. A full blown second wave wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Ugh. Here is the death chart from the 1918 Spanish Flu. The fact that we are on the first decline means absolutely nothing. It means even less when the only reason those cases are declining is due to massive self isolation and social distancing that you want to end.

Communicable diseases still spread from person to person the same way they always have. It's not as if people stopped breathing in close proximity to one another over the past century. What is the advancement in modern medicine that you think would prevent a second wave of infection?
