This system could work if the person has a good relationship with their parents and trust that their parents know them enough to make a decent life partner choice. We like to paint arranged marriages badly but they can be good. The problem is that they are often abused in third world countries or used as political gain.

Why? If you’re in a good relationship with your folks then why pay a stranger to make such decisions instead of somebody who likely knows you better. Obviously, this isn’t feasible if you hate your parents or have a bad relationship with them, but why pick stranger over parents?

Isn't that just called following your parents' advice? We already have that.
If you're already old enough to legally agree to something like that, then aren't you just agreeing with your parents about who you should marry at that point?
