For context, the UK may have just hit its peak deaths per day and will be hopefully trending down, but more than 21k have died already with intense social distancing and isolation enforced.

We finally started including nursing home deaths in the total count, today, which might explain that.

Yup I don't profess to have a great understanding. But Elon keeps trying to downplay the virus for reasons that aren't totally clear to me, and despite being wrong on things he said a month ago, he doubles down on the wrongness instead of re-assessing why. Very unscientific of him! @1,119,682 (dreamworks)
Yeah thats true but still it's looking like what, at least 30-35k deaths? That's a 50% margin of error! If one of his engineers was that wrong about a prediction he'd be fired the next morning. He just continues believing shit he had (and has) no understanding of.

I mean he is descended from South African apartheid money so you always knew the potential to be a huge twat was there. I wouldn't mind so much of he was at least right on the science-y stuff he professes to be such a fan of.
For the record, he predicted close to zero (let's say 250) new cases per day by the end of April. There were 25,000 yesterday. He was off by a factor of 100.

What really worries me — and what should really worry Mr. Musk — is that he has formed a cult of personality around himself. Being an engineer, Mr. Musk should have calculated that a cult of personality always ends with the person dying 100% of the time.

Only like 50 people actually own an electric car. PayPal is good but he left there like two decades ago I think. He gets 10x the media exposure of Jim Hackett, even though Ford sells like 20x as many cars as Tesla per year and has done so forever.

The reactions from this virus has been surprising and perplexing. A perfect example is the diehard "freedom fans" protesting and even saying that America ought to be like Sweden, that's not something you'll hear again in your life time. It really seems that it's like a unifying issue between political groups at the far end of both sides om the political scale, like i didn't have time to see it fully but zizek even said that lockdown was a upperclass solution and while I agree with him that it's only really a solution that the privileged have, I'd say it is also the only solution currently available.

You have to remember there's a big lag in deaths. While in denmark it seems the future is containment, with about 39 dead per million, there are 69 dead per million in Sweden but no end in sight unlike Denmark.

I think he’ll choose to stay in the spotlight. Those doses of dopamine he gets from being in the public eye are addictive. He’ll probably get more and more outrageous until some deranged former Musk fan buys an old rifle and takes care of the situation permanently.

The death count total I want is zero. The death count toll I have been given due to a fundamentally stupid and incompetent administration is over 60,000. And they are talking about what a great job they are doing because it's under 100,000. The only members of a death cult are them and their followers.
Wasn't it like last week that you said we need to start opening up everything and letting the elderly die? You're all mixed up and making no sense at all.

Ok so looking at the CDC data on NY State, I see info only up until 2017. Since they didn't bother to cite the specific link to their information, I have no way of knowing if that data is correct or how they compiled it. Assuming that the blue is just the top 10 causes of death + the firearms deaths, homicide, and drug overdose deaths info, you get 122,736. Dividing that by 12 gives you about 10,200 deaths per month. Maybe there's some seasonality to deaths + the growth in population that would push that up by about 2,000 per month to 12,500 where that chart has it. But I can't find that info for the left hand bar, and try as I might, I can't find where they pulled the info from in the right hand bar from the cited article.
