Topic: Will a restaurant get offended if you only order the side dish?

Anonymous A started this discussion 6 years ago #99,170

I only want grilled chicken on sticks. Anything else is only getting in the way.

No, it's just another order, they wont care. Some people go to restaurants just for drinks

Will a bartender be confused if I arrive obviously sober and have a beer then sneak into the bathroom and slam a pint of whiskey, then return to the bar and order another beer and suddenly become smashed five minutes later?

It is a very disrespectful thing to do, yes. You are basically disregarding the work they have put into carefully creating a dining experience. Most chefs would consider it an insult.

With respect, dreamworks, you do not know what you're talking about. I have worked in many restaurants all around the world, from luxury 5 Star establishments to humble family-owned businesses. In all of them, the chef worked very hard to make a quality dining experience which relies on a person eating at least a main dish. If that is not done, then the chef's hard work is being insulted. So please, have some common courtesy next time you dine out. Thanks.

Bullshit. Many USAmericans have no fucking idea of what good food is. Their palates so bland that they will be angry and confused by anything more exotic than the gruel from McDonalds. Sometimes this can be fixed by a talented chef, but often there is no saving them.

Please, dreamworks, you are making a fool of yourself. I am an expert chef, I know far more about restaurants than anybody else here. That is not a boast, it is simply a fact. Thanks.

How many 5 star restaurants serve grilled chicken sticks you fucking retard. And to answer your question directly, a couple times a month due to the industry I'm in.

Listen, you fucking mora, you do not know what you're talking about. I have worked in more 5 Star restaurants then you will ever fucking go to, and I was the best in my culinary class. It is an insult of the highest order if you go to any restaurant, let alone a 5 Star one, and just order a side dish. You might as well spit in the chef's face.

And yes, actually, they can serve grilled chicken sticks if it fits with their theme. It will simply be of a higher quality than most places. Please extend your palate beyond your local McDonalds before trying to discuss culinary matters again. Thanks.

I'm involved in live events and many of our shows are within 4 and 5 star hotels. We often eat with delegates and have a budget for their restaurants if we have a room there.

I think most of your story is bullshit but to address what you wrote... I also know how a kitchen works and you, the chef would have no clue what so ever as to the eating habits of a particular table. You'll be given a ticket and expected to make the order, it would be up to the host or waiter to decide whether of not to deny service if they thought the customer was here for snacking. If the restaurant wasnt too busy they will serve it. I also know restaurant workers and they couldn't give a fuck if a person was there for the 'full dining experience'or not.

And how would you know what I have and have not experienced? You know nothing about me, angry anon. Most of the "dox" about me is either lies from Syntax or trolling by myself. So please do not try to stalk me. Just ask Syntax how going to war with me ended for him.

Look, all I am saying here is that it does matter to most chefs and restaurant workers if you undermine them like that. Sure, maybe there are a few who do not care, but they would be rare. I give you my word on that. Okay?

In a lot of restaurants all they do is reheat Sysco slop. It doesn't matter. Everything is canned, frozen, or boil-in-bag. It does not matter and the "chef" did not "work very hard to create a quality dining experience" but is following directions in a process comparable to Cathy reading the Hot Pockets box to figure out how long it will take to microwave and "chef" will not be offended in the slightest.

Your shtick is taking the very highest Michelin Star dining experience and extrapolating it across all restaurants, which is wrong.

Also not everyone is a fat slob like yourself. Maybe some people aren't hungry enough for a full meal.

It's funny because what's makes a restaurant 5 stars isnt just the food but the service. If you wanted to dine out and just have wine and a starter then you can without worrying about some oddball chef getting offended

Apocalypse Indy™ !bYobIzYIFE joined in and replied with this 6 years ago, 2 minutes later, 6 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,119,235

Most restaurants are fine with it. If they are really, really busy and you go take up a table and order one small thing, it will annoy them, but they will not show it if they are any good.
