do you really think this? that if people had posted in your thread, that the tickets you bought would have won? you'd have bought the same tickets. the result is pre-determined. they aren't Schrodinger's tickets.

It is frustrating, I can imagine. There are some online gamblers who come by a few times a day and always talk about it. Oh i lost everything oh i won $20 oh i lost everything again.

I think she is partial owner for a local mexican food restaurant.
She beat the odds and won 25,000 on one once, which she promptly started spending on more scratch offs.

Ugh that sucks. If she took those thousands of dollars and just invested it she would be able to retire years early. It's sad to just throw it all away to the state. Lotteries are just a tax on dumb people and people with terrible impulse control. :/
Anonymous D replied with this 6 years ago, 2 minutes later, 1 hour after the original post[^][v]#1,118,335
True. Also, when a lottery says it supports public schools, that means they support public schools if they fill out ridiculous amounts of ridiculously complicated paperwork. At least that's what it means in this state.

That makes sense. I don't hate lotteries in theory but it's not like they are funded primarily by someone's grandma buying little Timmy a $2 scratch off for his 12th birthday. It's like all gambling. The majority of people playing contribute minimally to the profits. Then there are whales who dump all their money into it. It's usually something like the 80/20 rule, 80% of revenue comes from 20% of people. But states need more revenue and broad tax increases are politically unpopular so the money just comes from compulsive gamblers. It all sucks!

I did have a winning streak for a while some time ago. I would buy 5 dollar tickets every other day, and have a hundred dollar winner. I hit 200 once, and the last one I had was 500. I haven't played since. I knew after winning this much, my luck was going to run out, so I stopped while I was ahead.

Everyone forgot about the last $10 ticket. I put it away last night after becoming disheartened.
I want to examine it but I am wondering how it could possible win after the last two lost so hard.

I know people use the word "literally" a lot, but this is literally you falling for the Gambler's Fallacy. Each separate act of gambling is independent of each other one. If you had won $50,000 on each of your last 2 cards, your odds of winning on your next scratch off would be identical to if you had won nothing. It's one in thousands to hundreds of thousands for the smaller prizes, and one in millions to hundreds of millions for the larger ones.

I don't think the previous 2 have any bearing on the next one.

The odds for winning are printed on the back of the tickets. For the little prizes (like $3) its 1 in 3.6ish usually. The big prizes are one in tens or hundreds of thousands.
Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 6 years ago, 9 minutes later, 15 hours after the original post[^][v]#1,118,421
Yet the odds are the same that you or anyone else will pick a $500,000 winner on a scratcher like the one I just posted.

This one is my favourite type of scratcher 'cause you only need to get one word to win a prize. Most require at least 3. And it takes a decent couple of minutes to scratch, it isn't over in thirty seconds. Also the designs are always so cute. Tiny llamas!

You know when I was your age, I bought scratch offs with all my brothers and my father, and everybody. And I was the only one who won a prize. Nobody else could win one except me. You know how I did it? Every time I put coin to the card I said a Hail Mary, and every time I said a Hail Mary I won a prize. You believe that? It's true, that's the secret.
