Please answer me this... Why does the left currently have a huge hard on for immigration? I remember when big boy Clinton and his government was against immigration because it exploited those coming in AND put lower end jobs at risk but currently the popular left seem to think a vertual open door policy will only bring prosperity and peace.

The main reasons for support of broad immigration in the United States are for humanitarian reasons, economic reasons, and electoral reasons.

America has a history of being welcoming to immigrants so that’s a reason. America is the wealthiest nation on earth so it has a duty to help people come here from poorer countries who want a better life is another argument in favor. Economically it’s beneficial because it brings more people into the labor force and increases tax revenue and economic productivity. Electorally it’s polarizing because it benefits the left because minorities tend to vote Democrat and using it as an issue benefits the right because GOP voters don’t like the idea of becoming a minority so they are whipped into voting for GOP candidates who pledge to halt or slow immigration.

Both sides politicize immigration wrongly, the far left seems to want open constant 24/7 immigration to build a stronger electorate and the right largely wrongly is against immigration as a way to galvanize white voters who dislike black and brown people.

At the moment it seems like the central left are pro open borders where as the radical left (at least in the UK) are against due to protection of pay for the working class. It's almost like it's become a social issue where liberal elites support immigration and to go againt that makes you a racist.

Bill Clinton was never on "the left". He is (in)famous for yanking the Democratic party to the right, after a prolonged series of presidential election losses with his New Democeat rebranding. I think people on the left nowadays look back and see that Clinton's immigration policies were generally negative for both America and for immigrants, and are adopting new approaches based on lessons they learn from that. Plus, outside of Trump media echo chambers, public support for liberal immigration policies are at or near all-time highs. It's both good politics and good policy!

Yeah, it's a weird myth amongst conservatives like Svet that "open borders" is a popular policy for left-wing politicians. They tend to go quiet if you ask for citations, though.

Liberal candidates want immigrants to be able to apply for immigration like normal. Trump is trying to cut them all off. And unless a USAmerian is a fucking Maya or Aztec, they are ALL immigrants.

Oh sure I get all that histroical "we're all immigrents" but now we as a human race have established borders and laws immigrents are those who come from outside those borders and do not have a claim to live inside a country.
So why is building a wall racist if it's meant to stem the flow of illegal border crossings? Why do liberals want "undocumented Americans" to be able to vote and recieve a stimulus check?

I'm not sure what weird point you think you're making here, Walter, but this has nothing to do with my point about open borders being a myth.
And there you have it. Three prominent conservative thinkers on Minichan could not come up with a shred of evidence between them that open borders is a mainstream liberal policy.
Open borders = myth.

@previous (C) > Interesting how open borders suddenly became "looser borders".
Not really because I said it for the sake of not having an arguement. The point is modern liberals like a very relaxed approach towards immigration where not only highly skilled people come in as always but vast numbers of unskilled enter the country along with their social problems.

Too bad, you're in an argument now. My argument, about how open borders is a bullshit myth.
"Open borders" implies that liberals want zero immigration controls whatsoever, which is frankly an insane thing to say. Why do people like you swallow this bullshit, and then choose to continue swallowing it when you cannot prove it?

Can you show me where mainstream liberals have pushed back on the current flow of immigration? The liberal elite are quite happy for anyone who crosses the border to stay. How come the US has dangrous mexican gangs living legally in their country?

You are feebly trying to steer the argument away from the point I am here to make. I am not arguing whether or not liberals want relaxed immigration controls, I am arguing that "open borders" is a misleading term that does not reflect reality.

I stand by the idea that mainstream liberals would welcome open borders but will not push for it because they know it would fail.

If you're so keen on standing by it, then cite some evidence. How do you know they wan it?
It's also convenient that your initial claim of moderate liberals openly being pro-open borders has now become "they want it but they can't have it".
