Ooh. That's the one with the factions that transform terrain types, right? I've played the digital version of that once or twice.

Make sure you snuggle with Jesus as much as you snuggle with anyone else. @previous (I)
Yeah. It's super complex and I'm terrible at it. I enjoy it but I pretty much always come on last place, and it takes like 3 hours minimum. I'm hoping we branch out into other games remotely too.

Metallic purple and turquoise! Just around. I'm just excited to have a project, even if it'll only take a day it's something to look forward to. Got coaster brakes to put on it too, which I'm stoked about. Coaster brakes > handbrakes all day.

That sounds nice. What is different about coaster brakes from handbrakes?

Yeah, I played with some people who expected it to be like Settlers of Catan and were sorely disappointed at the complexity. Long, complex board games can be pretty fun if everyone is in the right mood for them though. I've been getting into Charterstone with some friends lately.

Ah yeah, its a totally different beast than Catan. Not for the casual board game player. I've never heard of charterstone. What's that like?

Coaster brakes are the ones where you pedal backwards to stop. I find them easier/more intuitive, and they're much more reliable than handbrakes. They don't seize up on you, don't wear down, and you stop much more quickly.

The basic idea is resource and worker placement with shifting mechanics to score points as the game progresses. It's a nice long legacy game, but they break it up into twelve chunks that take maybe an hour or so to play individually once everybody gets comfortable with the rules. Each of the twelve segments in a game build on each other and have individual winners and awards for second place, third place, etc. as you go along. Players can join in or drop out without killing the game too much.
They just released a digital version which means we don't have to screw around with stickers and setup each time we take it out. It looks like there's a lot of variation so we can replay it without spoiling too much or being in danger of finding one strategy that everyone plays to death.
