Topic: Should i watch "after life" with ricky gerfuck in it?

Anonymous A started this discussion 6 years ago #98,782

It seems like something I'd be interested in, but in my mind, that guy is a anti religious asshole and I resent him immensely for it.

So is it just another anti religious type of thing?

I feel like, you can be religious and still poke fun at religion

I know, like that story about Carl Jung that I've told you about, how the young little Carl Jung had a blasphemous thought in a church and almost went crazy trying to oppress it but eventually let it loose and discovered what he called God's grace?

Ricky genwarts ain't nothing like that in my experience though. He just takes cheap shots at religion, arrogant shots. Like that movie, the invention of lying. There was hardly anything to take home from that movie except that Ricky thinks religious people don't know what lying is. Fuck that guy.

I quite liked The Invention of Lying, and I don't think the main message of the movie was "Religious people are simply incapable of ever understanding the difference between a lie and the truth."

Then i suppose the atheists making that point were wrong however its true that a alternative interpretation can be made from a story regardless of what the story teller intended the story to be about. That story, the invention of lying, really made his anti religious and arrogant side shine.

I loved it. If you enjoy grumpy characters and some nihilism you'd like it. He just misses his wife and feels that life is meaningless. He beats some thugs with a tin of beans in one scene! I didn't like Ricky gervais before but I did like him in this.

There's a really big line between nihilism and grumpyness vs atheistic propoganda and arrogant bs.

It probably isn't for you. Religion seems to be a very delicate/sensitive subject.

I blame the atheists on yagoo answers under the religion and spirituality section. It's all their fault. Also Richard Dawkins. Fuck Dawkins.

Slightly off topic, I really like An Idiot Abroad

I liked it too except that dick head ruined it. He squeezed himself into something that should have just been a one man show, he just had to squeeze himself in it and once he was in it? He had to put himself into some high horse position of laughing at a idiot. He's his own worst enemy.
