The brown stripes appear to grow from the ground up to white spheres, reminding me of fungal stalks with fruiting bodies.

I could learn to like it, but only if a reclusive family of cartoon villains lived inside. They would have to make zany, unrealistic plans about world domination and came out occasionally to do a musical number telling us how their latest dastardly plot had been foiled. I think I'd like it then.
