I was in Italy for a couple months. A car theft ring was operating their chop shop in a field next to our excavation. The military police infiltrated them and shut them down at a time when they knew we would be there. A shoot-out ensued with us in shooting range. One of the cops was shot in the ass (ie he was running away). The cops got their cop car stolen by the car thieves, so they had to commandeer the vehicle of one of our italian students to lead an ambulance to the site. One cop was wearing his uniform inside out to be undercover, while another cop waa wearing his uniform under sweatpants and a sweatshirt. It was just a shitshow.

It was really fucking weird while it was going down. The rest of the day everyone was just super subdued and kind of shaken up. Nobody knew what was going on until later, all we knew was people were shooting other people, they screamed at our professor to get out of the car and got in and had the student drive off with them, we were all piled together in the trucks taking cover. It is hilarious looking back though.
