I clicked three buttons to apply for the $2000/mo benefit today and it'll be deposited in my bank account within three business days. If i later get approved for employment insurance i may have to pay it back but i think I'm ineligible for EI.
Fuck yeah socialism. Sorry bert maybe you'll get yours sometime this year. Unfortunately for those without direct deposit in the US, the USPS wasn't included in the stimulus bill and there are worries that it may collapse by July this year, before many Americans receive their checks. Go Trump!

Tax refunds aren't socialism

This isn't a tax refund, nor is the American thing. I haven't filed my taxes for 2019 yet anyway.

I get $2000 within three business days while you wait weeks on weeks for $1200 and some people might never get theirs because the USPS isn't getting bailed out lmao

People are going to be waiting for checks by mail for months though..that's the normal deal.
They've sent out tax refund checks to about the same amount of people for decades tho...I think it'll be ok.
I have DD..

That's not normal though. How will people pay rent in the meantime? Are evictions at least banned?

And if they haven't filed a tax return for awhile...and their current address isn't on file with the IRS...I dont know if they will ever get a check. There's been ample warning though.

Thanks! No, I am fully employed. I will not get that sweet sweet unemployment money which is a couple grand a month. I'm just getting the $1200 that everyone who paid taxes last year gets.

Oh, that's a thing? Cool. They increased the GST credit here, from $75-90 every three months to up to $300, not sure if that's one-time or every three months. But yeah for that one you have to have filed your 2018 taxes. Is there much work for you to do? More or less than usual?
@1,110,082 (E)
Will people only receive these stimulus checks after filing their 2019 taxes? Some posters are making it sound like that.

Yeah it's pretty neat. I have read that it's actually a rebate of future tax returns lol. So basically, you get this, and then when you pay next year's taxes(?) you may get nothing or owe the government more. You might even have to pay taxes on this next year! It's pretty suboptimal. Just print the friggin money!
What's the GST credit? Is that like a progressive tax credit of some kind?
Work is actually pretty hectic. We happened to have a lot of stuff going on right as the virus hit so I have had maybe 3 days of normal 9-6 working in the last 3 weeks. Friday I worked til midnight which fucking blew but it's not like I could go out and do anything anyway. Bringing work home with you is a blessing and a curse. I'm hoping that after next week stuff starts to slow down but I've been saying that a while and it hasn't happened yet.
How's your life/work situation going?

That is super suboptimal! So any amount you receive will become taxes owed? It's not taxable income, it's a loan which will be paid back through taxes?
The $2000/mo stimulus is taxable income but that's nbd and I expected it.
The GST credit is a tax-free payment given quarterly to anyone who earns less than a given income to offset the sales tax paid on items through the year.
What are you actually working on? PM me the answer obviously.
There's no work and the schools are shut down, I have absolutely nothing going on tbh.

Takes like 20 seconds to find out there is no liability on your 2020 tax return for this stim check.

Yeah it's a refundable tax credit for 2020. I looked it up after this topic. I could never figure out the differences between refundable and non-refundable tax credits and the tax implications of that. @1,110,155 (B)
Yes, extremely. @1,110,184 (C)
Where did Trip say that? I do plan on donating a chunk of it since I'm financially in an alright place and I've maxed out my IRA this year. I'll throw part of it into my work retirement account too or something idk.
