Scroll down a little on this page and look at the carnage on-

Confirmed Cases and Deaths by Country, Territory, or Conveyance

For the first time...I am dismayed by Trumps behavior, with him even considering we will be close to in the clear by fucking Easter. The country is being massively fucked right now and Easter is only 20 days or so away.

Damn.
Optimism is one thing but things will be fine in 20 days when we have 85,000 cases of coronavirus... good God..

@1,105,258 (A)
Not possible and because the virus has a 14 day incubation period at least, you'll start seeing other states getting worse over the next couple days/weeks. Atlanta, Chicago Detroit, and New Orleans are all hit hard too. It's everywhere.

What I'd be interested to see is not just cases per capita but tests per capita. If you don't test someone they wont be in the coronavirus stats no matter how sick they are.

I think you're absolutely right about assessing the numbers in light of testing rates. This has the potential to be a big problem moving forward. Without ready availability to widespread testing, it's hard to see what is actually going on. Sparse data just gives us a floor for the number of confirmed cases and leaves us scratching our heads wondering what number we can multiply "oh shit" by to give us an idea of the real situation. Plus it leaves us operating in the dark about where the next cluster of cases might turn into a major outbreak.

If you look at the data for California, the number of reported cases jumps dramatically around the beginning of March. It's not because the virus suddenly spread more during that time or hit a tipping point, it's because the first week of March is when widescale testing began to be available. The jump in cases one can see on a graph is actually an increase in testing rates playing catch-up to more accurately reflecting the data. The scary part is that the same could be true for any other place that isn't testing but the limited reports would make the problem invisible.

No one wants to see the numbers go up in their state. It's probably tempting for people to think that infection is only a problem in a handful of cities. It's probably comforting for someone to look at the current numbers and think places like New York City are the only problem areas. While that may be comforting for them, they might see it backfire pretty hard. I'm a little scared for Florida to be honest.

Cuomos ass acted like he wanted every state to send ever single ventilator to him. He kept saying I NEED 30,000 ventilators!

They barely had 30,000 cases. From my understanding you dont need a ventilator for every case.
New York is dirty and has a lot of pollution and unsanitary.conditions though.

They will have more cases. Projections estimate that they will need 30-40'000 ventilators so that is what he is trying to get.

Because Trump was trying to get exclusive access to the vaccine, so no other country would be able to manufacture it. Ventilators can be manufactured, Cuomo isn't trying to get exclusive access.

You think this was a good point? What???

He was too! He kept yelling "

The Federal Government is sending me 4000 ventilators and I need 35,000 ventilators...What am I going to do with 4000 ventilators...I need 35,000 ventilators!"

That would be the equivalent of over 700 ventilators from every state in the country.

Let's examine the situation:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/03/18/ventilator-shortage-hospital-icu-coronavirus/

Ventilators range from $25,000 for a basic model to $50,000 for a machine used in the most advanced intensive care units. Buying them also requires additional large investments in staff and training. Letwat said federal government investment would be the surest way to boost supply.

“It’s a challenge for states, local governments and hospital administrators to allocate tens of millions of dollars to something when they don’t know if they need it or not," said Chris Kiple, chief executive of Ventec Life Systems, a small ventilator manufacturer in Washington state. “But if they don’t do it, they are going to be caught flat-footed, and facilities are going to be faced with not enough ventilators to meet demand."

Ventilator manufacturers could achieve, within a few months, a significant boost in production from about 50,000 units a year currently, said Julie Letwat, a health-care lawyer with McGuireWoods in Chicago who is monitoring the industry. Orders have not flooded in, she said, because most hospitals can’t afford to increase inventory of expensive equipment for what could turn out to be a short-term event.

“The risk is that they’ll never be used, and hospitals can’t eat the cost," she said. “Most hospitals in this country are not profitable."

Governors and local health authorities worry about an insufficient supply of ventilators and have been calling on the Trump administration to move aggressively to solve the problem. The president indicated Wednesday he has a plan to boost ventilator supplies but did not provide specifics. “We are ordering thousands and thousands of ventilators and they are complex,” Trump said at a White House press briefing.

And Cuomo screams "Where are my 35,000 ventilators??!"

An analysis by the Society for Critical Care Medicine, citing figures developed for the American Hospital Association, said U.S. hospitals have 62,000 full-featured ventilators for advanced intensive care units with nearly 100,000 more with lesser capabilities.

Contrast supply with potential demand: More than 900,000 patients may need ventilator care during the coronavirus pandemic, the analysis concluded.

So yeah...Cuomo pretty much wants pretty much all the ventilators in the country.

And--

So there is a need to raise that to 100 times the production seems like that to me.

Do you think the U.S. Federal Government's response to the Coronavirus pandemic from the time China announced its existence to the world in January until today has been sufficient or insufficient? Do you think that as President, Trump is the single person most responsible for ensuring that the response was sufficient?

People you or your friends know are going to choke on fluid in their lungs and die in agony, surrounded by dozens of other people who are doing the same. Some of the nurses and doctors caring for them will succumb as well. That scene will play out in thousands of hospitals all across the U.S. Trump is the reason they died. That makes me immensely sad because this could have all been prevented. People thought it was a good idea to put a mentally disintegrating elderly man in charge of the country because he was an asshole to other people they didn't like. This is the logical, unavoidable consequence of that decision. When faced with a problem that he could not bluster and bully his way out of, he failed catastrophically. Tens of thousands of people will die at a minimum. The economy is in freefall. You briefly realized all this last night before you lost whatever moment of clarity you had. I don't know what else there is to say.

The Governor of New York is currently watching the health care infrastructure of his state be overwhelmed as people die and he is understandably frustrated that life saving medical supplies aren't being sent to the people who are dying right now. I can see where you might think his remarks were a bit brusque, but there really is an actual emergency going on.

I don't see anything wrong with someone trying to get the necessary equipment to save lives to people who need it right now. I'm not sure how you make a villain out of him in this situation. Do you think he's trying to hoard all the other states' ventilators even as the country is rapidly tooling up to start manufacturing ventilators and other equipment as soon as possible?

Ok i have to point this out.
https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/national/white-house-coronavirus-task-force-to-hold-daily-briefing-after-trump-signs-stimulus-bill
Trump told Pence not to call governors who haven't been nice enough to him. He's prioritizing his ego over people's lives.

> In particular, Trump called out Washington Gov. Jay Inslee — calling him "a failed presidential candidate" — and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who he said, "has no idea what's going on."

> "I say Mike (Pence), don't call the governor of Washington; you're wasting your time with him. Don't call the woman in Michigan," Trump said. "It doesn't make any difference. You know what I say? If they don't treat you right, don't call."

Even you have to admit that's fucked up, right?

> The reason it's tough circumstances is we needed to be ramping up production of ventilators and tests 6 weeks ago, but Trump didn't do that because he's bad at his job. Tens of thousands of Americans who otherwise would have lived will now die.

Oh yeah? Is that why NY is in trouble?

@1,105,813 (F)

>

Is that right? How did it happen? Like specifically to NY?

What do you mean specifically to NY? It's not specific to New York. It is a bigger problem for NY right now because of the late response and greater population density. The virus is in NYC for the same reason it's in any domestic travel hub in the US or any world travel destination like Rome or Paris. NYC is a major hub for world travel and the New York city metropolitan area has the greatest population density in the country.

Easier for you to understand...hopefully- an example- If tbere are there is 20 ventilators in the whole country in which every single state people are infected...and be demands as the governor of one state that by God he better get 16 ventilators right now...then yeah I see that as an issue.

If you want me to defend Bill DeBlasio you're talking to the wrong guy. If you think it was incredibly irresponsible for politicians to say at the beginning of February that there was nothing wrong with hanging out in crowds, look at what trump was saying on March 10! "Just stay calm and it will go away." And this is around the time he actually was beginning to take it seriously. Speeches from the time those two tweets were made were way less concerned about the virus than this one. He is worse than DeBlasio on this and I think DeBlasio should lose his job over his handling of NYC's response. This is such a terrible argument man why are you embarrassing yourself?

NYC is a city filled with degenerates and freaks. More whores, pagans, junkies and illegal immigrants than anywhere except California.

It would be the Capital of Liberals and if not for California.

75% of homeless people are in Cali & NYC

The USA could easily be back on the right track if the population of California and NYC were reduced by half.

How is that an issue if that's the place that needs them right now? People are dying right now. More equipment is in the process of being procured or manufactured, but you're worried about dividing up resources based on some plan that doesn't take immediate need into account?

Let's use a military example to mirror your thinking. If Florida was being invaded and needed troops and guns I suppose you would be cool with California sitting back and demanding equal amounts of military resources be sent to them as well? If Florida Governor DeSantis was complaining that his state was being overrun, someone in Utah would be totally justified in criticizing him for wanting to take troops and supplies from other states that might need them eventually? That's about the level of your thinking, right?
