Yes because the assumption is people who have been laid off in the last couple of weeks would not have been fired under ordinary circumstances. It's basically the government paying their wages while the economy shuts down temporarily to prevent millions of people dying from a pandemic virus. The person still working gets $1200 in addition to their wages. At say $10/hr that comes out to be roughly the same amount.

This affects millions of people who are making closer to eight per hour as well as the 10 per hour.
They are getting the regular unemployment wage AND a 600 dollar PerWeek (NOT Month) stipend from the stimulus.
So, people that make 8 or nine, ok even 10 per hour are going to be drawing at least 3000 per month when their normal paycheck
Example reg paycheck 400 per week-1600 a month
Unemployment check-regular about 250x per week + 600 stimulus stipend -3200 per month
Examples +/- but close.
Senate realize they goof slightly after bill approved.
