Topic: lazy musical gimmicks = massive fuck big hit

So I notice shit in music that the first time I hear it, if I don't hate it, I'll think, hmmm that's interesting, but if I hear it in another song not even by the same artist, the sound loses it's appeal if there hasn't been any attempt at making it different. If it turns into 15 years of standard song making, then I'll fucking hate it. Case in point, the autotune gimmick in the chorus of Cher's If You Believe. OK, quirky, not a big deal, but it led to South Park making fun of it. Then Daft Punk used an effect for an entire album, but being electronic/sample based, it made sense. Then it became pop music standard and kind of insufferable.

Later I notice the same fucking rhythm that apparently is sourced out of Puerto Rico all over the fucking place.

Now it's the cricket beat effect. I didn't mind it so much as this guy though:

amusing comments by others include:
You totally missed the chance to call it a "Cicadian Rhythm"
I call it sprinkler music. Sounds like a sprinkler with a short sweep pattern.
"My name is Max Martin. When I get up in the morning, I put my pants on one leg at a time, just like you. Except, when I do it, I make gold records. I think there has to be more high hat. Really explore the space with the high hat. I have a feaver - high hat feaver. And there's only one cure - more high hat."

The effect is not particulary new, as Aphex Twin played with it decades ago:

true! that's kinda what the grande hi hat reminded me of. taking the trap beat and tweakin it to give it some Cool Music cred for pop hit cred

They need to make a Nu metal version of classical. Where it's like hardcore violins and cellos and shit and then in the middle the guy raps for a bit. Nu classical ?
