Topic: Linux Live CD's never boot on my computer.

They all freeze shortly after loading the kernel, or give me a fuckload of squashfs errors or etc. Every single linux live CD I've ever used with the exception of Ubuntu 10.04
I'm just asking if there's a logical explanation for this? I have even attempted to use disks ordered from Ubuntu back when they shipped CD's. nothing works.

The only logical explanation I can think of is disk errors/drive errors, you probably just got lucky with 10.04. I've went through a few discs at times to burn a flawlessly bootable OS installation disc without errors, it just happens I guess, probably a lot of factors at play, I've never thought too much about it. Its stands to reason, that if a disc works fine for other people, but not you, the problem is somewhere on your end.

That's about what I was thinking, but these disks will boot in VMware (some still don't work, but a few do) So I am assuming there is something wrong in my hardware.

This. It sounds like a drive error.
I had to wrap my case with ice packs to get a computer to boot from the Live CD; the heat caused read errors. Once booted, I had to turn the fan speeds up from 1500 to 4500 to complete the installation.

If you have a USB stick with some spare space, you can turn a live CD iso into a USB bootable version with a little work.

I always install from USB these days. Once you figure out how it seems pointless to burn disks. Can you make a USB stick and try running from that?
I'll bet it's got something to do with your CD drive.

I think It does, too. I've booted linux perfectly from a SD card or a USB stick/USB drive. I'd love to be able to run Ubuntu again. I actually liked it because over time I grew into it. I removed pointless shit, but still had plenty of good useable programs.
