Topic: I got a new job, fora!

Dodongo !ZQvsveEcD6 started this discussion 6 years ago #97,102

I start in two weeks. It doesn't pay much but it's in a field I'm interested in, so I'm drinking to celebrate. I might play some video games later. What have you all been up to? What's going on in your life? I hope everyone has been well.

"working" on your two weeks notice is the best time you ever have during a wage job!

IT!

Generally yeah, but this place has been mostly good to me so I'm not gonna phone it in for my last two weeks, as tempting as that may be.

I'm glad your job is going well! I hope good things continue to come your way.

We're expected to upsell customers who know nothing about technology on unnecessary bullshit they don't need. It makes me feel like a piece of shit.

Not really, because my asshole boss is always right there making sure I'm pushing extra shit. He says I'm literally stealing money from him if I don't push this shit onto every customer, because of potential lost sales. His head is so far up his own ass. It's not even about wanting to give customers deals, I just don't think we should be pushing stuff they don't need, that they don't want, and that is completely unrelated to why they came to us in the first place.

I'm thinking about not going in monday. I may be more willing to compromise my morals if I was actually being paid decent money, but I'm not. Around here you can flip burgers and make more than I do. I'm going to think about it over the weekend.

Oh yeah I've had a couple jobs like that. It sucks ass and i never want to do that (or any customer-facing role really) again. I'm sorry bud.

Externally hosted imageFora update: I quit my new job today, and my old job took me back! Feels like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. It's been a good day.

@previous (chill dog !!81dzJNNYL)
Yeah, I too dislike customer-facing roles when the customer is the general public. I don't mind dealing with customers when it's a small group of clients or something though, which is what I expected to be doing. The job turned out to be quite a bit different from the way it was described to me in the application/interview process.

@1,102,854 (J)
It's a sad reality, but everyone has a price. Like most people, I like to think my price is pretty high and I would never want to severely betray my morals, but you never really know until you're in that situation.

Glad your old job took you back! Do you think this will affect how your boss treats you? Do you think your workplace will close soon for the virus? All non-essential businesses are closing here as of tomorrow at midnight (although people will be able to work from home)

@previous (chill dog !!81dzJNNYL)
I don't think it will affect how my boss treats me. He's a very good, understanding person. He actually helped me get the new job because he thought I would like it better, but told me I could always come back if it didn't work out. I work in a retirement home so I don't see it closing down, at worst I may lose some hours but thankfully I'm financially stable enough that that won't hurt me. A much bigger concern for me is catching the virus and spreading it to the residents before realizing I have it. Luckily I'm a homebody anyway so my chances of that are probably lower than average. Is the virus going to fuck your job?

That's all awesome, im very happy for you!
My work is somewhat seasonal and there is no work at the time, i just got on welfare. But because of the virus we have no idea when we will be able to start again. I will have a position when it starts again. :)

Lol. You're not supposed to get unemployment checks for half the year if the job you prefer regularly doesnt do anything for several months out of the year,lol.
You're expected in that case to work in any other field during those periods.

At least that's how it works in U.S.

It's not half the year, maybe like four months. Most people i think get enough hours that EI carries them through the dead season, I'm not sure tbh. I dunno, I'm planning on going to class during the dead season next year.
