Cheesecake was my favorite food before I became lack toast and tolerant. I am jealous.

No. :( It's hard to make it taste good without dairy. Do you remember what it was called? Also congrats!

I think another cheesecake shouldn't be a option until you figure out a more safe way to consume cheese in the form of cake.

Have you tried lactaid pills? They work well for me

I have tried and they have not worked for me at all. Which sucks because I would use them all the time!

That sucks! I usually take two pills a couple minutes before consuming dairy and they work great. They don't last too long though so you do have to be fairly quick

That's nice! I may try a different kind and see if that helps. What brand do you use?

Ok I will try a couple different brands and see if any work for me though I imagine they all use functionally the same active ingredient(s)!

Maximum five minutes. It seems to work fine if i take them just before the first sip/bite. Feels good eating ice cream or having a sugary milky coffee drink without stomach pain!

Yeah that's what I did too. I will ask when I go there. That does sound like it would be nice. It's been so long since I have had dairy. :'(

Do you drink non-dairy milk?
I've found some really good lactose-free cheese, like babybel size. My new fave snack. :)

I do drink soy milk, but I kind of do sparingly because I don't like drinking my calories. I stick to mostly water so I stay not fat. Do you drink non-dairy milk?
Also oooh that's cool. What's it called? I loved babybel cheese as a kid and that laughing cow cheese triangle kind. Not sure if that's sold outside the U.S. though.

Yeah laughing cow is awesome! I loved those boxes of the mixed flavours. I get this stuff, not sure if it's a canadian brand.
Soy milk is gross af imo, i like hazelnut milk. Almond milk is ok too. Rice milk is nice for drinking, it's thinner in consistency and lighter in flavour. People seem to like oat milk for coffee, they say it's super creamy.

@previous (chill dog !!81dzJNNYL)
I've never seen that but I'll keep an eye out for it. It's probably a Canadian-only product.
Me drinking soymilk is mostly a relic of me becoming lactose intolerant in the mid-2000s. Soy milk was pretty much the only widespread alternative to dairy milk at that time. I think there may have also been almond milk too but that would have been relatively new. I initially hated soymilk but after drinking it for over 10 years I kind of grew to like the taste. Nowadays all these darn kids have 12 different kinds of non-dairy milk to choose from. I don't like almond or rice milk, but I've never tried hazlenut milk. That does sound tasty. I have heard the same thing about oat milk but I don't drink coffee at all so I've never really tried it. Generally I just use it for cereal and occasionally a source of sugar if I feel lethargic. I find cooking with it is kinda hit or miss also which sucks. It's hard to replace milk!
Do you eat any other kinds of substitute foods regularly?

Oh yeah, it's hard to cook with dairy substitutes for sure. Some kinds of cheese are also naturally lactose free, primarily harder aged cheeses. You might be ok with thick yogurt like greek yogurt, or skyr would be your best bet, they have very little lactose.
Lactose free dairy milk also exists! It's just regular milk with added lactase (the enzyme that breaks down lactose, which is what we lactose intolerant people lack).
Gelato is also easier for me than ice cream! I haven't found a good dairy free ice cream though.
jodi !ariasXXmaE (OP) replied with this 6 years ago, 46 seconds later, 2 days after the original post[^][v]#1,096,484
lactose free milk guys. it's been around forever stop acting like you have a problem

Personally I also just hate the taste of dairy milk. It took me forever to figure out i was intolerant too, thought it was normal to have tummy aches and awful farts after having any dairy.

No generally that's just milk that's had the lactose sugar or whatever allegedly broken down by the same enzyme in those pills that don't work for me. Not sure why I'm so defective lol. :(

Maybe you have an actual dairy allergy? I'm not too sure on those and how they work. Have you looked into that?

@1,096,482 (chill dog !!81dzJNNYL)
Yup. I can have some hard cheddars and some aged parmesan cheeses, but those are mostly hit or miss in my experience, and missing is unpleasant.
@previous (chill dog !!81dzJNNYL)
No I have not! I am just going by what my doctor told me he thought. I suppose I could get that checked out but I hate needles and avoid blood tests as much as possible. I don't think I'm allergic because I don't really have an allergic reaction. I just have an incredibly upset stomach and digestive system after having dairy products. I guess it would be good to know what I'm allergic to in general though, dairy aside!
chill dog !!81dzJNNYL replied with this 6 years ago, 3 minutes later, 2 days after the original post[^][v]#1,096,492
@previous (Fake anon !ZkUt8arUCU)
Dairy allergies can cause stomach upset too. It's worth looking into if lactose-free milk or lactase enzymes don't work for you! You dont get an actual needle for the test, they just put some milk or milk protein on your skin and give you a little prick so it can seep into your skin. Maybe try taking a benadryl half an hour or w/e before consuming some dairy and see if that works?

The benadryl idea is interesting. I'll take some benadryl and have some late night ice cream or something. I should probably also schedule an allergy test. Is that done via a GP or a specialized doc in your experience?

I have no idea! A GP would refer you to a specialist if necessary. I think allergists have their own discipline but no idea really.
