The American tax system fascinates me. Once a year, they have to sit down and send a form to the government saying how much they've earned, and sometimes they randomly get money back.

Employees withhold money from employees salary and forward it to IRSSelf employed as me forward what I expect I will owe IRS
I try my best to end up owing them a small amount - I CRINGE AT THE IDEA I will have my money tied up in a US Gov account earning NOTHING at all on MY MONEY.
That leaves me with how exactly to take that extra money and MAKE MONEY on it - S&P 500’s 31.5% return is just one example

The other day I rote about a meeting where I was going to meet a new PhD employee of Verizon - She from Saudi Arabia and I was curious about lots about her because women engineers from Saudi Arabia are Rare very Rare and I also was curious if she was going to wear an Hijab - She was NOT wearing one for the meeting.
Verizon and Qualcomm jointly have put her up at a class act hotel in La Jolla and tonight she is taking me out to dinner A Business dinner of course and she called about an hour ago to let me No she wood be wearing a Hijab - I think that was a hint for me to at least wear a suite n Tie which I of course Will - Wood have been more casual as the restaurant works well for either case. THIS IS Totally going to be Business where I bill two clients while she picks up the bill because she already insisted on it and has a spanking brand new Verizon Credit card from AMEX -
Early dinner and she is going to take notes and report all back to Verizon peeps
I also fully expect her to teach me some Matt stuff I have been having issues with - She can do Calculus and Matrix equations in her head and that gives me horrid headaches when I try to do it - Can do to completion but HORRID JUST ARWFUL Headaches

Okay, shitposting aside, that sounds like a tricky system to me. As I understand it, in theory all Americans who work are meant to declare their earnings and such to the IRS, because THE IRS can't verify it all themselves. So, what's to stop someone intentionally fudging their numbers a little? Or just lots of people making honest mistakes? Is that a big deal for you guys?
Like, obviously the IRS will notice if anyone does anything too silly, but it seems like there's lots of room for small errors.
