Topic: Wtf is a ZERF?

I heard of TERF (Tran Exclusionary Radical Feminist), but I never heard of Zionist Exclusionary Radical Feminists before.

Why would you ask what a term means and then define it yourself in the post?

That, I believe, is the question of the century.

I guess... what does it mean to be a radical feminist but not like Zionists? TERF is easy to understand because you can kind of see the logic of where they're coming from with the trans-exclusion thing. I mean, not that it's good or right or whatever but you can understand the concept of biological sex essentialism and see how all the pieces fit together. It makes sense.

You don't believe in it?

No, I do believe in biological sex essentialism. Caitlyn Jenner is not a woman. I'm not sure I would describe myself as a TERF though because I'm not a radical feminist.

But what I mean is TERF is an idea that makes sense, that you can understand even if you don't agree with it. I can't tell whether I belief in ZERF or not because I have no idea how that could even work. Like I can understand being anti-Zionist, but how does that relate to feminism???

Okay I agree. I was thinking that you were saying that biology isn't important, etc

The same reason you see "Vegan Anti-Zionist" in Twitter bios.

These people love to let you know how much they don't like Israel. It consumes them.

lol. Do they try to force any overlap between their two topics? Do they make impassioned tweets about how Israel is anti-vegan?

Sometimes! It only really became a trend when people tried to popularise the term "Animal Holocaust", and some Jews and Jewish groups objected to the comparison.

It's funny, because Israel has a higher % of vegans per capita than any other country.

Shouldn't they be called TENF instead of TERF?

I'm not sure you would agree with the rest of their worldview given the Radical Feminist part of their position tbh.

Fine, the TERFs can be excluded from the TENFs. Do you want the blacks and the Jews in their own segregated groups too?

See that's the thing. I understand both veganism and anti-Zionism. I can read their arguments, understand where they're coming from, what they hope to achieve, etc. They're both pretty coherent ideologies.

It's the merging of these two concepts that puzzles me. If you say "I am a Vegan and an anti-Zionist" it makes total sense to me. If you say "I am a Vegan anti-Zionist" I'm just confused.

A vegan ZERF would probably tie all of them together as consequences of a patriarchal system though. What seems to you like two or three unrelated issues are actually all tied up with a patriarchal society, and only by ending the patriarchy can you end carnivorous appetites and the oppressive state of Israel. That's how the argument would go I think, so from their perspective it's totally sensible. Not that I agree, but that's what they would say.

It's the same with vegetarian ecofeminism. From what I gather, they consider that oppression is oppression is oppression: an oppressed population anywhere is a function of patriarchy, or fascism, or hetero-patriarchal-capitalfascistic-... something or other.

Dead link.
