Topic: I've been feeling a crushing weight

Anonymous A started this discussion 6 years ago #96,624

On and off for the past few years I've been feeling down. There's no real reason, my life is going halfway alright, I'm able to distract myself for only about 30 minutes at a time before slipping back into negative thinking and the like. I have already cut out alcohol and normally live an activish lifestyle. Anyone got any depression remedies that aren't suicide or drugs?

@OP
Find a hobby to distract you from the nagging urge to peer out over the edge of the void?

OP
I think the best simple solution is to hang with healthy people. Usually active people. I have a friend who finds pick up basketball games. Sports where you make yourself high with endorphins. Working out at a place where people are really sociable - Ever since I joined a Gym I now have a new group of healthy friends.
Invites to event's with other healthy people having fun.

People that like to hike in groups - All out in some nice environment getting lots of fresh air and exercise. I surf everyday and am surrounded by happy people and it's always how I start my day.

Never met anyone depressed on the hiking trail or skiing or surfing or in my case Jitterbug dancing. Adrenalin and Endorphins - Feeling good/great naturally.

Runners get a runners high. Bottom line is to do fun things with other healthy people.

I know you said no drugs but occasional cocaine usage is pretty uplifting.

I do that pretty regularly

@1,090,572 (chill dog !!81dzJNNYL)
Just tired of the cycle honestly

@1,090,575 (D)
I'm looking to require a musical instrument, that usually was a good distraction

@1,090,578 (E)
I'm new to a small community but that is a decent idea, I'll try to joint some activity based group

@1,090,580 (Erik !jzYkdX7lIw)
It's not the worst, but the cocaine I have done in the last year hasn't really helped. I don't think it technically hurt or anything, I just didn't get any long term benefit from it.

@previous (tteh !GETFUCKED)
Of course! Why didn't I think of that before!! Lol

Counseling with someone who you suits you, and medication. And tbh, though it's very hard to do, try to catch yourself thinking something negative and really examine it. Figure out if it really makes sense and is true. I sometimes think lots of things that aren't true and are really just me catastrophising.

Im looking into counseling in my area, it does seem to help when there's someone pretty detached from the situation that you can examine things with. When i have my freakout moments, which are a lot more frequent then I care to admit, recently I've been able to bring up why I'm freaking out, remind myself there's no reason to be as upset from some trivial aspect of how something happened, take some breaths, and kinda move past it. Thanks for the suggestions and offer
