Topic: I wish my brother would stop trying to name me.
Catherine !ttGirlsPl2 started this discussion 6 years ago#96,617
It’s partly understandable as I haven’t given out the name that I am using yet (spoilers: it’s not Catherine), but he does it to be affirming yet it comes off as a slave owner trying to name his slave and I told him I hate it. If you want to be affirming then just fucking say Aunt and use feminine pronouns. Don’t do this naming bullshit like you’re trying to control things. It just makes you look like an egotistical control freak.

I think it's kind of nice. People are seeing you as your gender and trying to help you fit in

He just doesn’t know it yet and mostly does it to search for jokes.

Well I guess, I just mean if it's expressed that it makes Catherine uncomfortable, if their brother cared he wouldn't keep pestering about it

The way I see it, your parents are the only ones who can rename you. Get them to pick a girl name for you. I mean you never picked your birth name, right?

Do you think people can't rename themselves?

Catherine isn't good at communicating and perhaps didn't express herself properly. Also her brother is likely used to a lifetime of correcting Catherine

1) People here, I think it was you, encouraged me to pick my own name because as an adult one is fully capable of picking a name. I see that now.
2) I was going to do this and even asked my mother but she refused saying that the decision should be mine.

In that case then you have to go with the feminine version of your masculine name.

So many exceptions to the rules when it comes to name changing legally.
Women often get a free ride at divorce in many states. They can eaisly go back to their maiden name and in some states even pick whatever last name and even a new first name if they want to - Otherwise the web says it's a simple procedure to change you name to anything you want but could cost $300
Also says anyone can legally change their name to anything without going to court - but advises on court filings.
Cathy are you saying your Bro has some nickname you really hate?
Calif being so progressive on gender issues I bet you can change your name to whatever you want more easy than most and later even pick some othe name.
For my business I have to file paperwork and publish once a year a doing business as in Calif and a couple of other states. IF I said more about this someone wood start researching for my business name and then it wood be easy to call me at Qualcomm and I NO Want that 2Happen

It's discouraged to take your husband's last name here

In looking at what the web said - It is often discouraged in States as well. Gets complicated with credit if one changes the name - Sticking with the married last name can also be messy if the Husband ends up with bad credit and the woman gets burned as a result.

Names are given, not chosen. If you want to name people, have some kids.

That's such a weird mindset to me. People should have control over such a fundamental part of their identity. I was miserable with the name my parents gave me

I have used a couple of other names. Once upon a time in USA if one needed to do business in the Middle East - Countries like Saudi Arabia for instance or Egypt and you had a passport with an Israel stamp in the book - You were forbidden from travel to several Mid east countries. I forget but having a Jewish last name made it impossible - As a result the State Dept made special accommodations to anyone needing a new passport but as I remember it the choice of names was up to them - Been a very long time - First trip I made was to Saudi Arabia and those that invited me knew my full real name because they met with me in USA and gave me the invite.
The other name was due to needing a passport with Other than the blue color - Name used was not my choice.

What about people who pay to have their name legally changed? Just the name, not the gender.

Are you trying to say that the U.S. government provided you a fake name and passport so you could travel the world?
That’s a new one.

The US governments like all governments will provide a fake identity for their top spys and diplomats.
My mate travels between the middle east and Israel. He just uses two different passports. Saudi Arabia don't care if you're Jewish by name only that you're from Israel

Was this before or after he used his credit card to buy jet fuel for a flight after Pan Am went bankrupt?

This is the style of a Matt twisting of the facts and then exploding a post in2 one of his fantasy's.
The name change was an accomadation offered at no cost to any jewish person who needed to travel - That was a long time ago.
Quick look at web and the one thing that did change in Saudi Arabia - Jews are now allowed in with Visa - UNLESS They are Israel Citizens and They are still forbidden from getting a Travel Visa.

Thank goodness the State Department gives you an assumed identity for free. You need to pay for all that jet fuel!

@previous (J) Airline Asks Passengers for Cash to Pay Repair Bill so Plane Can Depart
> Although such situations are very rare, this isn’t the first time passengers have been asked to chip in to help a stranded plane. In 2012, passengers on Air France’s flight 562were asked to help pay for fuel after an unexpected landing in war-torn Syria. The plane, which was flying from Paris (CDG) to Beirut (BEY) was forced to divert after protests and riots broke out around the Beirut airport. After the flight crew requested a diversion to Amman, Jordan, it was determined they lacked the fuel required to make it there, ending up in Damascus. Although an Air France representative did ask passengers how much cash they had to help pay for fuel, it was never collected from passengers.
