Don't drive, don't care on a personal level. I think it's a good thing, although 2032 seems rather optimistic in my entirely unknowledgeable opinion.
I'll be interested to see if 2032 becomes a serious pledge, or if it was just an off-the-cuff remark on the radio ("or even 2032").

Also "could start as early as 2032" is a lot of hedging. My guess is it'll be a decade after that.

bad idea. buying a used petrol car is better than a new electric one

The 2040 → 2035 pledge will be government policy after COP26 (currently it's just Johnson/DfT statements). But the UK has a proud, well-established history of setting impressive environmental targets that we then courageously miss completely, so I'm looking forward to watching this unfold!

Oh I misread it's just new ones

They need to make more efficient electric cars first. Like a phone, the battery won't be able to hold as much charge 5 years down the line. Maybe a removable battery, but it'd be huge.

Swap and go batteries I think, also smaller cars in general.

Petra oleum - rock oil, which you morons call gasoline (which was originally a brand name).
