Thanks! I would just like us to have clear, sensible rules about personal information. Nobody will be above them, and they should apply to mods+admins too. We've gone too long with vague "pls no family" unwritten rules.

Anyway, my thoughts (I'll try to be concise):
I think Fake anon basically had it right here. The issue was that the mods weren't proactive enough about enforcing it or using escalating consequences with repeat offenders.
I don't like the idea of overly proactive mods, as this is a chan. But I also think it's right to more proactive given the history. The previous laid-back approach obviously hasn't worked.
Also, a clear list of rules like the ones Fake anon made (which we could maybe refine ITT) in a locked sticky might help, at least in the short term. It'd keep the rules fresh in everyone's minds.

My own thoughts are that "dox" should mean information which could uniquely identify someone in real life, that they have not publicly released themselves. Thus, "Indy's Roach Coach" is not dox, but "R****** Culinary, LLC" or "A*** ******* Food Truck" are dox. As would pictures of the proprietor, that he has not previously released himself (I would consider pre-schism Tinychan 3.0 to count as having been publicly released on Minichan, but not post-schism).

Back from a fun Oscar party in my hood. I don't remember thanking you for backing me up multiple times back recently when I was banned for making fun of a Fake Pretend Relative - As a result becky agreed the ban was wrongfully given.

Yea that one is tricky - It is rare I ask for a modification by a Mod unless it goes just too far and I sure end up with a mass of them here.

The thing is, "Don't discuss somebody's family" should be enough. It is clear and concise and covers things like not harassing people by constantly reminding them of their dead relatives. (What kind of low life doesn't already understand that that's not OK anyway?)
And as tteh pointed out, simply mentioning "Matt" or "Lynne" should be fine, as well as posting pictures we've already seen over and over again for the last decade... as long as those pictures don't depict dead family members. This really isn't difficult.

How about a total reset? As of now, no one is allowed to post anyone's Real name, photo, or any family information or real life information (address, stalking people’s relatives graves on Google Earth, etc.)? Just start over from today. No dox at all unless someone OKs it. Why not?

I think this should go slightly further, because it's not OK (IMO) to harass a user with a single detail of their life that they've shared (advertently or otherwise) in the past. I also think it's far more important to protect the privacy of users who've clearly chosen to keep their private life private throughout their stay here. Also IMO any new rules should explicitly forbid mods from outing anonymous posters or revealing details about that poster's posting history unprompted. (Except naming a user they're banning, of course.)

Okay, I had a go at drafting some rules, meant to cover the issues raised ITT. Please provide feedback and suggest additions or edits.
Rules for all users:
1. Do not post dox of other users. “Dox” is defined as mentioning or referencing information that could identify a user in real life, such as a full name, a location, or their job or workplace. Things such as pseudonyms and broad references may be fine, but this is subject to mod discretion.
• A possible exception is something like trying to send another user a gift or money. But this should still be arranged privately with the other poster. A mod can assist with this if PMed about it.
• Users whose full names are already widely known may be exceptions, but mods have discretion to delete posts referencing them if they are excessive or felt to violate privacy.
• While not dox per se, excessively mentioning a user's personal details that they themselves have revealed here may be considered harassment and consequently deleted.
2. Do not mention family members or real-life friends of other users. Vague insults, such as “fuck your mother” are fine, but mentioning or referencing specific details is forbidden.
3. Do not post pictures of other users that they themselves did not upload here. Creative or humorous edits or crops may be allowed but are generally frowned upon and may be deleted at mod discretion.
4. Do not excessively mention other users or events in threads that don’t relate to them. While off-topic posts and shitposts are generally fine, do not derail threads with off-topic drama.

I thought the names part was tricky because, for particular users, the genie is already long out of the bottle, so trying to suppress it now feels pointless. That said, I would generally trust mod discretion on if someone is going too far on that.
