Yeah the idea that there are limits on executive power is pretty out there, you are correct.

You need reading comprehension. No where does it state he was going to sell Alaska to Russia.

#1 If we can get a good price, why not? Yes there's oil and shit there but you can figure out how much oil there is, how much it's worth, etc and calculate these things.

#2 We bought it from them so it's not completely shocking if they want to buy it back (don't get me wrong we should gouge them on the price - I'm talking if we get a good deal)

#3 No one fucking wants to live there anyway. It's gay and expensive and retarded and cold.

I have a die hard Trump supporting friend who lives there so it would be pretty funny to me if we did sell it back. Maybe we could trade it for Greenland in some kind of 3 country deal.

Ugh, buying land from other countries is so medieval. It's archaic and rude. Stop talking about it. Just leave the borders how they are.

I think there would be several things to sweeten the deal: a buyout with compensation for real property at fair market value, a generous pile of cash for moving expenses (like $50-100k), close out the Alaska permanent fund and issue checks to everyone for their share.

Of course they get to keep US citizenship and stay there if they like (Russian citizenship/residency permits/etc would be between them and Russia).

A Greenland-Alaska swap would be interesting. Greenland is basically Alaska but in island form ?

They named a country after me?

It would be a neutral value trade and would be incredibly dumb!
@previous (Green !StaYqkzUPc)
Yes they did.

Maybe Greenland has more oil in it? Or better access to shipping routes or something? ?

I mean lets say you have something worth $1. And somebody wants it so bad they're willing to pay $2 for it (because they're irrational and emotionally attached to it). So you sell it to them for $2, then go buy another one for $1. On the surface it looks pointless, because you are in the same position (in terms of possessions) but the trade actually makes a lot of sense because you are $1 richer. Maybe that's how the Greenland-Alaska trade will work. We sell Alaska to Russia for $1,000,000,000,000 (or whatever a reasonable amount is), then go buy Greenland, which is pretty much the same thing (it even has Inuit native people!) for $500,000,000,000.

Denmark isn't selling it, and it would be a huge pain in the butt to tear down american institutions in Alaska and implement them a couple thousand miles east to a landmass that is functionally quite similar to what we already had.

I think we better sell it before Russia just takes it. I mean at least we'll get some money and get to save face.

I'm not sure russia is interested in acquiring more giant swathes of uninhabitable tundra.

Greenland is nothing like Alaska.

They're both totally gay so it doesn't matter.
