Topic: I accidentally called 911 using my Blackberry's emergency call option

Anonymous A started this discussion 15 years ago #9,643

I was unlocking my phone and hit "emergency call" instead. When it asked me if I was sure I wanted to make an emergency call, I meant to hit cancel, but I hit the wrong button, I guess, and it said I was connected to 911.

I hit the end button repeatedly and said "cancel, cancel, cancel", just in case there was someone at the other end of the line already.

I've heard that the police trace and act on every call they get. It's been 20 minutes since the accidental call, and I've received no call back, nor anyone at my door step.

How likely is it that they'll show up after this much time has passed?

Also, how do they track your location down?

This has been very stressful and potentially very embarrassing...

I think it's just a call back to make sure someone wasn't accidentally cut off since it may or may not be a real emergency.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm just surprised they haven't called back yet, as it's now been nearly half an hour since I made the call.

Yeah, yeah... I'm shitting my pants here!

Yeah, maybe...

I have a number from a different city 20 hours away, do you think that has anything at all to do with it? Or is that not how they trace your location?

I have had to dial 911 once. I witnessed an accident and was on my way to the store to get a soda. I didn't want to turn around and help so I called 911 on my cell phone. They were not familiar with the area but took some initial info and then patched me through to the local 911 dispatcher.

@previous (Leo Vegas !gNoGoD5HzQ)

Ah, okay, thanks for the info. I guess it would have been different (and not an issue) had I stayed on the line and explained that it was accidental.

Shit shit shit :-( I hope nothing happens.

Just don't worry about it. Also my phone # has an area code for a city about a half hour to an hour away.

How long was it before the police showed up after you called them?

Ive called the police 5 or 6 times. one time it took them an hour to get to my house, others it took them 2 or 3 minutes.

It also depends on the dispatcher, they might just think it was a mistake if was a hangup call, other dispatchers will send out a unit to investigate. They can track the call through the IMEI number that is transmitted to the 911 Dispatch. Only 911 operators can see a name and billing address "911 address" with a phone call. all cellphones made after 2005 have E-911, which allow police to see triangulated GPS coordinates within 300m of the call, and GPS enabled phones broadcast a pinpoint location when outside.

That was very informative, thank you. Sounds like there is still a chance of them coming over, then. I just hope that the call never actually went through--I didn't hear ringing or anything, but it did display 911 on the screen.

If they come over, just tell them what happened, they will probably tell you to be careful and not to do it again, call it in to the dispatch that it was a false alarm and leave.

As long as you don't lie to the dispatch about having an emergency, or lie to the police, its not "Misuse of 911 emergency telephone service".

That sounds reasonable. Do you think they'd bust the door open if they came to my house and nobody answered? Not that that's what I would do, even though I am quite nervous.

Nexus !jNexusRe/. replied with this 15 years ago, 5 minutes later, 55 minutes after the original post[^] [v] #171,891

@previous (A)
No, they will just keep knocking and announcing who they are and why they are there. They cannot enter a house unless they see something in plain view, or have reasonable suspicion too believe a crime has occurred to enter.

If they come, just go outside or if you have nothing inside to hide, let them in and tell them what occurred.

Perform the Banishing Rite of the Dark Lord, or other opening.

Visualize a bright sphere above the head (The thousand petaled lotus is one name given to this, thus it is viewed as brilliant white light)

Vibrate "SATAN!" three or four times. Then imagine a shaft of white light descending down from the sphere, through your head to the nape of the neck where it widens into a sphere of light.

Vibrate "CHORONZON!" three or four times (sphere is extended up and over the third eye).Visualize the shaft of light descending to the Solar plexus area, where it expands into another sphere of light.

Vibrate "LUCIFER!" Three or four times. then again see the beam descend to the genital area, where it expands into another sphere of light.

Vibrate "LILITH!" Three or four times. Finally the beam descends to the feet, to the final centre, as the sphere expands see it extending over your feet and under the earth.

Vibrate "BELIAL!" Three or four times.. stand for a while and 'feel' the effects on your energy system, most students find that this dynamic way of working with the energy centres brings immediate results.

After about six months of doing this ritual, you may begin to experience the power of being able to bump old Minichan topics.
