I read an article once about a really lonely older guy, who spent his days posting anti-Muslim rants on Twitter. A Muslim journalist he'd spammed arranged to go meet the guy, and it was very revealing. The man was divorced and didn't really have any real life friends. When the journalist asked the man if his posts had ever changed anyone's mind, the guy basically said no but he was still "getting the word out".
Bert reminds me a lot of that guy. A lonely guy who's life has been taken over by extreme politics. I'd feel bad for him of he hadn't been a jerk before.

3 years into Trump's presidency in which he boasts every month about creating millions of new jobs. And Bert's still unemployed.

Trump reassures him that it's ok to blame other people for the crummy life he lives (yet it's 'liberals' who shirk personal responsibility apparently).

Yeah, that's been my experience as well. I briefly interned for Congress once upon a time and while I was working for a solidly Dem rep, we'd get all kinds of callers, from both in the district and outside. Our in district callers were mostly friendly and liberal, but we'd occasionally get the odd conservative caller and I got the sense that they were older (55+) men and women who dont have much going in in their lives anymore and no friends or family to speak of, who just wanted to have someone listen to their thoughts. This wasn't all of them, we definitely had our fair share of ideologues who wanted to give their Rep a piece of their mind, but generally the people who most consistently called were the most lonely irl. People like Bert dont happen so often in a decent society that builds string social connections imo.

An old boss of mine was in his 70s and having a lot of health problems that left him bed-ridden most of the time. We worked it out so I handled most of the stuff that required actual physical activity and he did most of the stuff he could from home. It was crazy how fast he changed from a cool old guy who liked motorcycle racing and blues music to someone who couldn't get two sentences out without complaining about immigrants and Hillary's emails. A year and a half of being stuck in bed watching FOX News and never going outside absolutely changed him.

Blah blah blah...yes there are idiots which choose to frolic and play while their fellow countrymen ignorantly steer the nation towards certain doom. I genuinely pity such foolish asstards.

That sounds awful, I'm sorry to hear it. It sounds like his personality was mutilated.

Ugh that sucks I'm sorry. The way Fox preys on old people by exploiting their fears of change and difference is disgusting. It also is making my parents increasingly politically insane. I hate cable news so much, and Rupert Murdoch in particular.

Open borders is a myth. You were asked to prove it once and could not produce a shred of evidence.
