Their developers have no fucking values man. They don't believe in the democratization of technology or the open source movement. They make good shit but they should be open source and all the programmers over there fucking know it. I'm telling you this as a gossip queen. The programmers want to go open source but they always bend over for the suits.
That is not an innovative company guys. That is a fucking also-ran. Proprietary is a cancer that's holding us back as a species. Developers understand this, suits don't. The release of the Chromium source coincided with the release of Google's beta version of Chrome, with Chrome's first stable release release coming only months later. I suppose you could make the case for one or the other coming first, but the two are intertwined.
What Google gets by making (most of) the browser's source open to the public is a community of developers working for free to improve the code, write complementary applications, and offer ideas for improvement.

I hate Opera the most of any browser. More than I hate IE9 even, and that's pretty shitty when you get down to the technical specs. Opera should beat IE9 on specs, but it fails to do so in usage for some reason.

I was under the impression the devs pretty much realize what you say is true. In fact, they worry they aren't getting the recognition they deserve. Their code is good and they want recognition. That's not going to happen with abysmal market share and no political relevance.
