Does that make the legal drinking age 24 now?

Yeah. They're also raising their age of consent to 21 too.

Have you noticed that California tobacco policies tend to eventually set the national policies? I was just thinking about that today.

They implemented the fire safe cigarettes, rolling tobacco became pipe tobacco to avoid a price change due to California tax increase, and California was the first state I heard of to set the age to 21.

What are fire safe cigarettes

Cigarettes that either have a more fire resistant paper or "speed bumps" of paper so they won't just burn to the filter. California has a fire problem.

It's on the tobacco tax stamp. Most boxes of cigarettes will say fsc.

And the American spirit pouches are pipe tobacco iirc, and now they don't come with papers so the price wouldn't immediately increase in California about a year and a half ago.

I'm assuming you meant to cite me, but it's not specifically around the filter, it's the paper in general.

Yeah I'd hate for my cigarettes to catch on fire.

Yeah. There used to be a time when you could set a cigarette down and it would continue burning all the way down to the filter. The modern ones will go out if left unattended for a minute or two.

There was once a time in this great nation where you could fall asleep smoking in bed and die in a fire because of your own carelessness. There was once a time where you could rely on a cigarette to be a cheap method of making a time delay fuse. There was once a time in our nation when you could drop a cigarette in your car while driving and be sure that it would keep burning it's way through your upholstery and floor until you hunted that fucker down and put it out. That golden age is long over now. People aren't smoking. Their children aren't smoking. Our bedding and auto upholstery isn't smoking. Now even our cigarettes will stop smoking on their own.
