Topic: My friend is getting married and bluntly asked for cash.

jump started this discussion 15 years ago #9,510

Ive never met his fiancee. His hasn't been with her for all that long. Theyre planning on getting married alone. No guests.

They have a website (that he has mentioned a few times). It explains how they met, but seems just an easy way to ask for money. They arent registered anywhere, and even say they would rather have money "in lieu of traditional gifts" they set up a honeypot.

I understand the idea behind it. I know it's what he would prefer (he doesn't need silverware or appliances), but isn't this considered rude?

It feels tacky. If they're not having a wedding, why would I send them money if they're already established? If you don't need anything and aren't going on a real honeymoon, am I paying for your lifestyle? Weddings aren't a way to cash in.

What do?

Tell him to get fucked. Then tell him to get fucked several more times on his honeymoon.

This. If he's not even having a real wedding, it's very rude to ask for money. Fuck them.

"We're not inviting anyone to our wedding, but we still want you to give us gifts as if we had invited you to a wedding, except instead of gifts, just give us your money."

It does sound a little tacky. If you really feel the need to give him something, get him a ten-speed blender and some napkin rings and pretend you didn't understand.

Do what what feels right. Don't give them money if you don't want to.

It sounds like a fucking scam. Wife divorces, etc.

I'm gonna give him something, but I'll wait till I see him. I want to meet he first, and I will at our other friend's wedding.

Give him a bread-maker. Weddings are all about useless fucking gifts.
