The more expensive ones are best for very cold water. I doubt they are thick enough to withstand a lobster claw grab. I hate the gloves but then again I have never surfed in water cold enough for - Water currently is 62 degrees with is normal for this time of year AIR Temp is running 42 to 51 degrees.
In theory the Lobster style is supposed to have more freedom of movement but I have never tried on a pair.
