NASA is not getting shut down. They only stopped the shuttle program because they want to focus on other things besides circling around the Earth.

This. They weren't accomplishing shit up there and we can still hitch a ride with the Russians, its time to focus on cheaper, more efficient ways to space travel and more productive things to do once we get that figured out. The shuttle program was a tremendous waste of our money.

Agreed. They decided that they opened the path for commercial low-orbit travel, and they were wasting their money circling the Earth for no reason. We'll go up again if we have to. For now, they can focus their budget on things like putting people on Mars, maybe starting a base on the moon, and coming up with better propulsion systems. Not to mention that spending money just on things like probes and telescopes can teach us a lot.
