If the Palestinians can exclude Israel from some patch of land and form a government and run their own internal affairs and stand on their own two feet, then they are a sovereign nation. If not, they aren't.
Right now it seems as if the Palestinian territories only exist to the extent Israel permits them to (ie that Israel could cancel them at any time). It seems more like the South African Bantustans than a real sovereign nation, imo.
Note that I don't think either the State of Israel or the Palestinian territories is "right" or "wrong" in this situation or that Israel is evil and Palestine is legitimate or whatever. I think this is a matter for the Jewish people and the Arabs to work out amongst themselves and as an American, I have no dog in this fight.

Given I lived and worked in Israel - and on prior trips I visited Palestine and had a chance to compare it in its deteriorating State, for a couple3 decades.
Nor wood I joke about how nice the people really are IF politics and religion does not cum up in conversations. There are even a few very few beautiful areas in Palestine albeit they no longer contribute to the economy and tourism sucks while Israel prospers.
So IF they want to continue to throw rocks and bombs Israel's way instead of building up their own country then of course things will continue to get worse and worse.
Now assuming you're some sort of Christian - Jesus must approve of Palestine turning into ruins because that is the way it's been for decades.
