There already is a large military role in space (e.g. spy satellites) so to me it seems more like changing the name of something that already exists (NASA is our "space force"). Does it change anything if a CIA satellite is launched by the "Space Force" instead of NASA? I don't know. Probably not really.
There's kind of a precedent for this because before the Air Force was created, military aviation was the domain of the Army Air Force. It probably seemed silly back in 1947 to create a separate "air force" when the Army had been flying planes just fine for 40 years at that point.
