I have an cousin who retired from the CG a couple years ago. I think he had 24 years in. His retirement check is $4200 a month, no taxes. He is 45 years old and set for life. He also has full medical for life. I asked him why he didn't join the Navy and he said they are a bunch of faggot squids lol

50k a year is absolutely something you can live off of for the rest of your kife., especially in a low cost of living area

Ask syntax what kind of fyne real estate you can rent for 4000 a month, thus leaving you nothing at all to spend on anything else whatsoever.

Considering that the median income in the US is $31,000 that is more than sufficient. Especially if you own your own home. Even with a $1000/month mortgage that's more than enough to live comfortably.

$4000/month in rent is absurd. The most I ever paid was $1400 and that was in Manhattan. If you live somewhere with like $750/mo rent $50k is very comfortable living.

Average home price in U.S. is slightly over 225,000.
How long do you think it will take to pay that off even at 4 or 5 percent interest at 1000 per month?

Info more than a year old- The NYC cost of living is so high partly due to its exorbitant housing market — the average rent for a Manhattan apartment is $3,667.

4200-3667= how much for every other expense besides rent?

That depends on how much you put down to begin with.

I have no idea where you are pulling this info from but a 2 bedroom apartment costing $3600, meaning each person pays $1800, is not wildly different from what I was saying. Even 1 BR apartments are usually split by people dating. The only people actually paying $4k per month are trust fund kids and finance professionals who pull in well over $150k/yr. Which is not most people, of course.

OK I paid £600 a month for a house. Idk what that is in monopoly dollars but its less than 4k.

Is that for a 1 bedroom or 2 bedroom? Again, if split two ways, that's 1800/month. Many 2 bedroom apartments are split with a third person in violation of the lease as well to bring down per-person costs. I did that for a while. You do not understand the basics of how renting in Manhattan works. Which is fine, it's not something you've ever done, but you are looking silly by insisting you're right when you're not.

Also you are totally missing where I said you could live comfortably in a low cost of living area, which Manhattan is assuredly not.

Yes our per capita GDP is excellent but there is a very inequitable distribution of resources here on the ground.

Anon C is dumb. even if you lived somewhere expensive you could live off that considering it’s RETIREMENT... you are expected to have a home and car paid off by then with the kids out of the nest

24 years in the military means his retirement is 60% of his last three years of pay so the guy made around 84 grand a year and some of that is saved up hopefully and he’s 45 so he has another 15 good working years left. Also retirement with the military you get free medical for life none of that bad VA crap or cobra

Anon C is a tard

I brought up Manhattan because you seemed to think it was normal for someone to pay $4000 per month in rent. Even in Manhattan people don't pay that, as I mentioned. Which is all totally beside the point that retiring on $50k/yr is totally doable because it's more than most people earn even while working.

No need to. He is set. He lives on the east coast and has for 10 years now. He was stationed out of the same base for the last 8 years of his hitch. He was going to get out after 20 years but re up'd for another 4 years. I asked him why and he said that just his re up bonus was $65k. He owns his own home. His truck and Harley is paid for and he now works for some company at the bay where he installs GPS, sonar, depth finders and shit like that on these huge luxury boats. I don't have a clue what that job pays. He has only worked there for a year but I am sure it is as much or more than his pension from the CG.
