The Senate is controlled by Republicans. They'll acquit him.

Indeed, because they are in his cult and care nothing for reality or justice.

So, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a purely symbolic thing, yeah? Ultimately, the Republicans in the Senate are just going to say he did nothing wrong and let him off?

Yes but there will have to be some kind of "trial" in the Senate and it forces swing state Republican senators to make an impossible vote. Vote to impeach and lose the primary. Vote to not impeach and lose if your state goes blue.

Trump is still in office. My goal is to remove him. His crime? Ending the Federal reserve. Once he's gone I'll reinstate the central bank

Like if you remove all sense of morals and doing the right thing it’s really not a hard decision at all to make. All the Republicans should vote to acquit him if they want to get re-elected with the exception of Susan Collins who should vote to impeach him if she wants to be re-elected

I'm not sure that's true of Gardner. Colorado will probably go blue again and he won't win reelection if he votes to acquit. McSally will vote to acquit but might still lose because Trump is radioactive to college educated suburban voters and that could cost the GOP Arizona. I'd keep an eye on Thom Tillis as well. NC is definitely in play. I wouldn't expect more than 52 votes to remove really. It's very possible they don't even get to 50.

Yeah I mentioned Gardner ... I think Arizona is trending more blue but I think NC is going to stay pretty red for years to come

We all do. @previous (H)
I started typing before that post was made but yup agree on him. I think NC is gonna be red because southern states always work overtime to disenfranchise Dem voters. It will go blue eventually (see VA) but it'll take I think until 2028 at the earliest. The more economically successful it becomes the bluer it becomes, especially now in the age of incredibly stupid, crude, mendacious right wing "populism" that is anathema to the sensibilities of educated folk.

Yes. The US Constitution gives the House power to impeach and the Senate the power to try impeachment. The GOP in the Senate have virtually no interest in actually having any kind of "trial" about it. They have given every indication that they aren't open to evidence about anything other than the opinions they already have. They pretty much call each piece of reality they disagree with a "hoax" out of reflex.
So the US Senate is going to do <something> and look like partisan tools who can't identify abuses of power even when the evidence is right in front of them. I'm sure people like Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell will trip over their dicks to clean Trump's shoes off with their tongues right up until the moment when he fails. Then they'll try to rewrite history with them as the heroes and claim they were some kind of force working against him from within. Much like they want to pretend they weren't salivating over their nakedly partisan impeachment of Bill Clinton over a lie about an affair that had absolutely zero to do with his duties as President.
So, whatever. The orange guy is a fucking crook and everybody knows it. Props to Graham or McConnell if they ride this through and manage to paint themselves in a good light. They still survive in an era when people look at the Bush years as an obvious failure and disgrace. And they were cheering that shit on all the way.

I really hope he does end the fed, one of the few things I support that I hear he supports

Any president to try to end the Federal reserve has been hurt.
The Federal reserve is not a great thing for the USA.
@previous (K)
Not going to, I really don't care. I just heard that's a thing he wants to do, and if so great. He'll either be killed or end the fed or neither, so two out of the three aren't bad options imo
