I call in sick, the next day my boss is like wtf, we just fired a lot of people, not cool. So I was all sorry and now I'm working extra shifts to make up for it, but now people are like wtf, extra shifts? They just fired a lot of people.

I had planned to bust my ass because it's worth busting my ass for. It's just, well, I don't feel that welcome with the other shift. They think it's horse shit that I'm working extra just because I was sick, i had just convinced myself it wasn't horse shit at all but made perfect sense. Now I'll be there, trying to work while also trying to stay neutral between the boss and those people on that shift. It's crazy.

I really just can't fucking believe that it's already come to this. Now I'll have to explain to them that my boss ain't forcing me to work over time, but that's going to be difficult because they probably are not on good terms with my boss and so I'll have to defend my boss and at the same time explain they got it all wrong while understand how they got it wrong given my poor choice of words.
