Don't do it—it's never for the bus.
I was just asked that by a kind looking woman outside of Walgreens. I gave her a bus ticket to use any time and went across the street for lunch. She continued to ask people for money.
After lunch, I approached her and asked for my ticket back. She had no answer to, "you just wanted money, not bus fare, huh?"

I don't give money to anyone at all. I just know they are going to use it for something else. If they were honest and said "hey man I need a beer can you spare a dollar?" I would give them more than enough. I just hate the dishonesty.

There's another woman who I see often enough. She has a small shitsu mix of some sort and stands at busy intersections with a cardboard sign. For a while, she used a sign that said she was pregnant. I saw her often enough and she never showed changes; she might have been pregnant, but it just seemed fishy.
I saw her again, yesterday, and her sign said nothing about being pregnant. She could have miscarried, but who knows?

Meh. I usually a dollar or two if they ask for it. Its just a fucking dollar. Fuck - for all I know what they're going to do with it. It's none of my business. Takes guts enough as it is to approach someone and ask for money. Usually, I give $5 to musicians that play on the street. That shit is awesome.

Tears of joy trickled through the caked grime on Marco's face as he threw both arms around Whippit, still holding the fully loaded machine pistol. Nearby, a cluster of vagrants sorting through a shopping cart filled with handguns and shotguns ducked and danced away from the arc of the Mac-10's barrel.
"God bless you, and God bless Arm the Homeless," Marco said. "This is the nicest thing
anyone's done for me in 10 years."
With that, Marco withdrew from the embrace and shook the Mac-10 menacingly at a reporter. "Beats the hell out of a little spare change, don't it?"
The proud new gun owner slid the Mac-10 into a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles backpack, which he latched over a soiled bed roll. He waved goodbye, then set out across the desolate, dry bed of the Salt River, his course set for the corporate towers of downtown Phoenix, two miles away. Marco said he spends most afternoons there, panhandling near the Valley National Bank building.

Homeless people around here ask for $.70. Always $.70. People are more likely to give you money if you ask for a weird amount.
The only person I ever give anything to is this guy in a wheelchair. I dont know why. He's a nice guy, I guess. One day he just asked for mountain dew. They were on sale, so I got him two.
A lot of them are angry and violent and cause disruption. They lay about the sidewalk, stinking of mold and urine. I feel bad, but my money won't get them off the street. No matter how much I give, they will be back on the street within days.
I think giving them poisoned food/beverages would be the most efficient use of funds.

I always tell them that I only carry credit cards. If they're polite, I might get them a cold coke or something from the drug store, but I'm not going to have my hands occupied and my wallet out within striking distance of a stranger who is probably desperate. It's just not happening.

There's one gas station that's the cheapest one in the area. There's more expensive ones by it. When you go to the cheapest ones, people harass you for money. One women who looked trashy went up to me and I immediately say "I don't have money". She asks for a ride instead, which is her trick. Then I'm stuck driving her and she starts asking for money. Finally I get her to leave.
Every time I go back, she harasses me again and she clearly cannot even remember who I was each time. She'll ask for money, then for a ride. I now tell people I'm late for work no matter what time of day it is (maybe I work at night).

When people bug me for money, it's always spare change. There is this rapper in my area who is a wigger and he says he's an "up and coming rapper" and asks for amounts under $1. Oh, one other time I was eating mcdonalds and waiting for my train to AC. I hate when people talk to me and a bum who stunk sat next to me with some sandwich paper (those big rolls of paper hoagies or cheesesteaks come in -- hmm..or subs or heroes, whatever you call them). He offered to do my portrait. I said no thanks. I wasn't gonna give him money no matter how beautiful it was. He did ask me to buy him food then, which typically I would have done. I couldn't imagine not being able to afford any food. I was just so pissed he made me too disgusted to eat. I cannot stand when people approach me when I am eating. I'm very weird with my food. How often do you all get hit up for money? I do like 10-20x a week. At least once on my way in to work and on my way out, but usually I get hit up at the train station and 7-11.
