Topic: When I hear sirens, I often worry if it's related to me.

I think I've caused a disaster and the sirens are fire trucks, ambulances and police cars racing against time. So many times have i been surprised to show up at work and everything was fine. However, how would i know if it's just my imagination or really the case? I wouldn't really be confident in calling that, so I assume it's not my imagination because it's safer but I've been testing.

I never hear them. The trick is to stick beeswax in your ears and tie yourself to the mast of your ship.

Beeswax huh? I didn't know what that exactly was but apparently it's a natural cure-all wonder wax.

It's very simple, i thought i knew what it was and I was correct, but I doubted myself because who'd put beeswax in their ears?

To plug your ears to block out sound. I have squishy wax (or wax-like) earplugs, they work really well.

presumably because siren mythology dates from a time when beeswax would have been the most conveniently available material suitable for this application.
