Topic: It's weird to be able to set a volume level and then mute it and it still remembers the volume level

I hope this makes sense, I just find it very weird that I can set my volume to 3 and then mute it and it remembers 3. It feels like mute should be 0 and that that should override the 3. Thanks.

No that would be annoying and defeat the point of a mute button in the first place

if you want to volume to remain at 0 just turn down the volume

When you click mute, the sign of the value gets toggled, e.g. 3 becomes -3. When playing back, a volume level <= 0 means "muted". When you unmute, the sign toggles again (-3 becomes 3) restoring the old value. Why is that weird?

Its also how every device with a volume knob and a mute button has ever worked
