Today I went dumpster diving.. Trying to find some stuff to sell.. I found a 10 dollar winning lotto scratch tixket.. Had to fight another bum for it.. I went into the fetal position and wrapped around the ticket until he left me alone.. That lotto ticket bought me a pint.. Now I just need to scrounge money for some Wendy's and some Marlboros in the soft pack.. Please send me money..

Love,
Layabout Anon

Wouldn't that 10 bucks been better to make a payment to your probation officer?

What's the appeal of the soft pack? I mean the cigarettes themselves are the same either way, right? It seems like that would provide less protection to the cigarettes, leading to an increase in crushed cigarettes ?

I have wondered this too and they say the cigarettes in the soft pack are more fresh, plus they are made so that you can slip one out without touching the rest, handy when your hands are covered in bullshit.

I quit about 15 years ago but when I did smoke it was always the soft packs. Like D said, they always seemed fresher than the box.

But if soft packs are less common then it would seem they would sit around more. Like if everyone is purchasing hard packs, then turnover of hard packs will be fairly swift and they won't sit around very long, leading to increased freshness. Additionally, the hard pack seems more airtight and impermeable than the soft pack, protecting the cigarettes from going stale (do cigarettes go stale? I'm not a cigarette smoker so I don't know how this works).

You could just pull one out of the hard pack with your teeth, avoiding touching them altogether ?

That's the shitty kind of post syntax used to make when I was living in 20 degree weather in a tent. I'd be starving...going on a week without a shower and feeling miserable. I'd get ahold of ten bucks and buy a pint or a hamburger and fries and he'd say shit like I should have kept that money in my pocket when I was distraught the next week because I didn't have my fees to pay at my probation appoint ment.

I really don't know what it was? I don't think it had to do with the turn over time. Both were sealed with cellophane and then in foil. Only difference was one was in cardboard and other is paper. I smoked Marlboro reds and the soft packs always tasted better to me and the tobacco burns more evenly. Also the soft pack cigarette was a bit longer than the box too. Might have just been a mental thing to me...kind of like the addiction.
