How is this not the most popular thread on Minichan right now? This is amazing news.

Why? They made a virtual machine inside their game. Big deal.
Actually it's not even as exciting as that. Somebody figured out how to make the prog counter jump to an arbitrary address and run custom code. People have been doing that since ZX Spectrum peek & poke days.

Yeah, that's what arbitrary code execution is. Methods have been discovered in plenty of other games, but that doesn't make it any less impressive, given that the methods for accomplishing it are completely different for any given piece of software. And Ocarina of Time has been so thoroughly deconstructed over the years that it's exciting that it still holds secrets as big as this!

It’s not exciting at all. You are just meant to play the game as the developers intended not do glitch shit so you can get a deku but .345 seconds faster for your twitch speed run that approximately 30 people in the planet care about

I am very disappointed by this news.
@previous (D)
This isn't intrinsically a speed running thing, it is interesting on its own with the insight it offers into the game's internal mechanics. It isn't even useful for speed running in its current form anyway.

I've always just played the game. The only glitches I've ever exploited are the one where you play your sword instead of the ocarina, and the bottle duplication glitch.
