When it comes to Stephen King, there are no standards tbh. Unless you count setting your stories in Maine, and making your protagonist an alcoholic, as standards.

I went in expecting a shitty remake, was pleasantly surprised.

Yea I'm not too big on remakes but I guess I will give this one a shot. The only remakes I remember liking was The Poseidon Adventure and this latest remake of A Star is Born.

The Fly, The Thing, Cape Fear, there are many superior remakes (my opinion, natch).
As for the OP, the remake is the better film. The original is overrated and has dreadful acting from everyone except the wonderful and much-missed Fred Gwynne.

Cape Fear was good. I forgot about that one. Scorsese directed De Niro and they did a great job with it.

Agreed. The original was full of over the top performances. One of my favorite things about the remake is that Ellie Creed no longer has an annoyingly screechy voice.

I bet The Stalker has a Steve King reference, or will, when he takes a few minutes to think it up.
