So all day I've been listening to REM's album Monster (25th anniversary deluxe box set to be released next week), and the magnificent epic tune Let Me In is about Michael Stipe's friend Kurt Cobain, and his attempts to 'save' him from his eventual self-destruction. It got me thinking about other songs that are about real people. This is what I have off the top of my head:
REM: Man On The Moon (Andy Kaufman)
Derek and the Dominoes: Layla (Pattie Boyd)
Eric Clapton: Wonderful Tonight (Pattie Boyd)
George Harrison/The Beatles: Something (Pattie Boyd; that gal got around)
Elton John: Candle In The Wind (Marilyn Monroe; later, Princess Diana)
Paul McCartney: Maybe I'm Amazed (Linda McCartney)
Paul McCartney/The Beatles: Hey Jude (Julian Lennon)
You got any more? There are thousands of them, I'll post more as they come to me
I read it was about Warren Beatty (Mick Jagger sang backing vocals on the song; I've never heard it suggested he's the subject of the song)

I don't know who wrote or sang it but the song "Killing Me Softly" was written about Don Mclean.

The Knack: My Sharona is about the lead singer's girlfriend at the time, Sharona Alperin. She became a real estate agent in LA and owns https://www.mysharona.com funnily enough!

you’re turning into those people who end every sentence with an exclamation point as to appear friendly and disarming!

Happy to have pleasantly surprised you :) I imagine that was like those occasions on Christmas morning when you hold a gift in your hands and feel sure it's going to be a 3-pack of sports socks only to open it up and find out it's actually a bottle of the '61 Chateau Latour.
