Topic: "All Star" lyrics Google translated from English to Zulu then back to English

Anonymous A started this discussion 6 years ago #92,996

Someone once told me that the world would take me out
I'm not a sharp tool in showers
He looked dumb with his finger and thumb
According to the "L" shape on her forehead
The years begin to come and they never stop coming
I was fed up with the rules and hit the ground running
It doesn't make any sense not to live for yourself
Your mind is smart but your head is dumb
There is so much to do, so much to see
So what's the problem with taking back roads?
You never know when you don't go
You will not shine if you do not shine
Hi now, you are a good skater, start your game, and go play
Hi now, you're a rock star, make a show, get paid
And all that glitter is gold

This seems accurate.

I’m not a sharp tool in showers. UN translators will be all out of work!

If you give the same text to two different translators, they will give you two different translations. That doesn’t mean one of them is wrong.

The machine translation isn’t bad.

I'm surprised and impressed that it maintained the phrase "hit the ground running". I also like the line "You will not shine if you do not shine."

But if pros, both texts will make sense

This text would make sense to a person who only recently learned English or Zulu.

Only a snob would criticize a machine translation.

Of course there is currently a need in some cases for human's to translate languages in some circumstances. Technology is rapidly making those humans obsolete.

You and I currently accept digital translations that are far less than they should be - Ask me some other time why we put up with those errors.

Which translation is better?

Maybe Zulu just isn't a very good language? Have you tried a better one like Dutch or French or something? ?

So what's the problem with taking back roads?
