Topic: People who put a reserve on Ebay auctions

Dodongo !ZQvsveEcD6 started this discussion 6 years ago #92,841

Fuck you. Instead of wasting people's time with a reserve price, just start the bidding at whatever the lowest amount is that you'll part with it. I hate that reserves are even an option, no one likes that shit.

Agree. What is the point of an auction with a reserve? It's not really an auction then, is it?

Yeah it's gay. If you have a price you're set on getting, just sell it for that price.

I guess the logic is the lower starting bid attracts more attention to your listing, but that just feels misleading to me. Also, apparently in the olden days of Ebay, reserve listings were cheaper in the event of the item not selling. But it seems to be the opposite nowadays, costing an extra $5 on top of the standard fees just to have a reserve price: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4364

Cause it should e an outright auction and if the item is worth 500 dollars people should be able to get it for a penny.

No, you're missing the point. Instead of starting an auction at a penny with a $50 reserve, they should just start the auction at $50.

I don't understand auctions that also have a Make Offer button. Am I meant to offer less than the opening bid or more? If I offer less, does the guy say, "hey shithead, you didn't even offer as much as the opening bid, fuck off" and if I offer more, does the guy say, "dumbass, why'd you offer more than what I would have taken?"
