Topic: What is it with stores now asking for donations for random charities?

Even TACO BELL asked for my change today for "scholarships." It's so weird! They need to stop.

I hate it. The cashier tells you the total and then Asks, Would you like to donate a dollar to The Refuge Orphanage Home for annoying autistic children? (or some other cause)

If they want to put a jar with a sign on the counter ok but quit asking damn it.

I always say no to any solicited charity donation, because I'm not going to give money to some random "charity" without looking into them for myself first.

@1,051,811 (Ananthanarayanan M R)
The grocery store I usually go to will usually ask for donations to a "local food bank" (not actually named) or the United Way. Even the self check out is programmed to do it. Taco Bell asking for scholarships today was so weird, they didn't say scholarships for whom or what program or anything (not that there's really time to during a drive through transaction, but still).

here they do a button at the thing where you return bottles where you can give the money to charities

When I charge for a plastic bag I say it's a charitable donation of your choice, minimum 5p, how much would you like to donate

I'm afraid that incidents like this will only become far too common. There's a lot of people that the system missed and instead of addressing the system, the system we benefit from, we instead donate a dollar or two here and there so we can just move on and not think about the system since after all we donated and did our part.

The company (in this case, Taco Bell*) gets to deduct the charitable donation and gets good PR for "donating $x dollars to scholarships". It probably also makes it easier for charities to get donations by giving them more places to solicit donations.

I think it's stupid and if you want to donate to charity then just do that on your own. Taco Bell should focus on pseudo-Mexican cuisine and scholarship charities should focus on scholarships.

*I'm not sure if it's the franchisee who collects the charity money, Taco Bell corporate, or they split it.

People are so fucking stingy sometime s though. One time I was barely able to get anything to eat and a guy online who talked about all his money all the time sent me just $15.00.
And then after that he made dozens of joke posts insinuating I ate out of dumpsters.
