Topic: 80s America was such a paradise

Anonymous A started this discussion 6 years ago #92,758

Remember the 80s? Of course not, you probably weren't born yet like myself but if i imagine it right (and i always do) it was a golden era in America, sort of. I don't know why i imagine it like that but I'm totally convinced that it was and I wonder why those times are gone as you probably do yourself.

The answer is...... What is the answer?

It began and ended with recessions, the AIDS epidemic exploded, the U.S. illegally funded multiple dirty wars in Central and South America, leading to the death or displacement of millions of people, and some of the music was very tacky.

Perhaps those bad things were merely ghosts of the past instead of representatives of the 80s?

any attempt to summarize a 10-year period as a collective experience of 300 million people is going to be somewhat inadequate

any attempt to summarize a 1000 person's voting intentions as a collective intention of 300 million people is going to be somewhat inadequate

Right!? The summary is there and it definitely does exist, 80s America can be summarized but just not by us. The great tradegy of being human is that alk we got is our words but our words aren't good enough and never will be.

sure, any statistics student is taught such: the sample data is an attempt to know about the population data. An attempt.

Externally hosted imagehere is a representative of the 1980s: Spuds Mackenzie, some kind of fun-loving party drunk. Later, we would find out that Spuds was a woman the whole time.

Oh i believe you alright. I've seen movies from those times and it never matters what the movie is about, it never matters because the impression is always the same, pure bliss.

We still have Rubik's Cubes and MTV too, but they were a bigger deal in the 80s.

@previous (Sheila LaBoof)
Yeah, I don't expect it'll ever go away. It just sticks out as an iconic piece of the 80s. Maybe cocaine and crack will make a comeback once we get everybody off the fentanyl. Why can't we ever bring back cool shit like shopping malls and arcades?

Okay, boy. So let me teach you about 80s America. It was a good place. But it was no paradise. Only after Van Damme movies. Then yes.
